Hello this is my first time here the question is when i start my truck (cold starts) i here a lifter ticking for about 30 to 45 seconds then it goes away not to be heard again until the next morning or if it sits for a long period of time i bought the truck new the oil has been changed every 3,000 miles i use a fram filter and 10w30 valvoline the ticking did not start until about 68,000 miles it has 92,000 on it now the ticking has not got any worse over that many miles on warm nights it is not as bad i read where the aftermarket filters did not have a built in check valve so oil drain back was the problem last week i went to a factory gm oil filter but no change this truck has never had a wrench put on it other than changing to oil it still has the factory brake pads the battery was replaced at 75,000 miles should i worry with replacing the lifters or just keep driving it this is buy far the best vehicle i have ever had the second best was a 1990 chevy pickup i bought new and had for 10 years with over 100,000 trouble free miles any ideas

I have the same 'problem' on my truck. The first time I herd it it was about 10 F at 5 AM and it really freaked me out. I took it to my mechanic and he said it's benign and it isn't going to hurt anything to leave alone. So I left it alone. I don't know if that helps but I thought I'd share. Welcome to GMI!!

Yep, my tahoe does it too. Funny that it also has 92,000 on it and it started doing it here and there about 10,000 miles ago. It is pretty common. Doesn't really hurt anything, just kind of annoying/embarassing sometimes.

The only way I know how to get rid of it is to run a heavier oil in it. It is not worth it though. I will just run mine until it gives out.

I figure I got a good 100,000 miles left to go.
