DETROIT -- Ignition problems account for more than half of the 30 million recall notices going out to General Motors customers this year, but the rest disproportionately involve vehicles sold in the last two years rather than defects unearthed from the bureaucracy of old GM.

Very interesting story, lots of stats, I found this one, which was a side-bar the most interesting...............

2014: GM's record recall year
26.4 million: Total U.S. vehicles recalled in 2014, 14.7 million: U.S. vehicles recalled for ignition problems 12: Recalls for the 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the vehicle family with the most recalls. That's in addition to 3 last year, for a total of 15 since their redesign, beating the 2013-14 Ford Escape's 12.

The new Escape has been the poster child for new models riddled with recalls, apparently GM's new full-size quietly surpassed it.
