One source got slightly better than EPA and one source got slightly worse than EPA. It just goes to show you that the EPA is as accurate as possible and these ridiculous claims of crazy diesel mileage are just that.

I think Diesels better fuel mileage gets turned into heroic mileage differences partly because the people that buy them are much more mileage concerned and will have driving habits that benefit and they're the other people who quote crazy mpg figures to justify their purchase.

I like the VW much better than a Prius. The exterior looks 100000x better, the interior looks better, it accelerates better, it handles better and it's just cooler.

Granted, I probably wouldn't buy a VW due to horror stories about reliability.

I'd probably take my chances with a VW, and their corolla-like looks are growing on me.

:lmao:

Does this "ridiculous" statement of yours which is so easily refutable by other sources mean if we're a Volt supporter we should be nervous about diesel ?

What it actually shows isn't clear - read it again - the reported 26 - 40.1 mpg is written in such a way that its more likely to be about at least in part - the 26 part - instantaneous readings - with the 26 including or exclusively about performance run mpg.

So, when somebody demonstrates a 10 mile plug in range for a Volt by deoptimising the course and use, is this the kind of thing we should use to rebutt ?

Of course the driver and the duty cycle end up making a range of results - they do with everything else - including gassers.

However, lets not forget that battery equipped anything changes up negatively and faster than anything else - and degrades further with age - and that a Turbo diesel degrades least of all.

Also, PM biased at least half the test by putting both the Prius and the Jetta into a 'city' cycle completely optimized for the Prius.

And another couple of things - they still ended up very significantly higher than EPA - with the Jetta - which you managed to mischaracterize as well.

The Prius of course ends up below.

No accident and fully understandable given some other - if I was 'high' on battery induced ozone I'd be really nervious too - that Phish' collected two of the least positive reviews and put them together.

Actually thats kinda' cool - because the Jetta Clean Diesel as a vehicle still comes out a winner - and ahead of the Pri.

The only thing wrong with this car for some of us is that it isn't made by GM, Ford, or Chrysler - more importantly there are many where that won't matter at all.
