I spent most of my time in America this time in a new Corvette ZR1. It is a fabulous car. Mesmerisingly fast, good looking and amazing value. But after three days the damn thing was beginning to disintegrate. It made me growl with annoyance and despair.

But I think I know the problem. Because America is a new country, the people who live there have no sense of history. And if you have no concept of “the past”, it is extremely difficult to grapple with the idea of “the future”.

to me, he does not exist.
I would love to see more people like you for whom he doesn't exist, but sadly in real life people all over Europe (maybe Asia too, I am not sure about that) quote him and treat him as automotive god.

And YES Sebring sucks, but It's still not the worst convertible in the world. Convertibles made on the basis of small cheapo-cars and microwaves as Nissan Micra are far worse. Even classy Fiat 500 will look silly in convertible version.

If he had THAT to say about the ZR-1.......why not strap the stiff-assed pansy in a Viper SRT-10, or better yet a Viper ACR and then listen to him piss and moan..... ;)

what a complete ass hat.

no we have no sense of history thats why GM has been around for 100 years. and are one of the oldest auto makers in the world. go ask him his since of history, how long has toyota been around, how bout nissan? so for GM not having a since of history in his opinion then does that equate to the other manufacturers with less years of experience being less prone to good ideas, and producing a quality vehicle? no. not in his eyes.
what a F'n tool.

im really going to take advice from someone who is saying the ZR1 is a pile of crap. if people already dont like this guy, then this will certainly push them over the edge.

another thing too, this idiot is trying to fight a war that was lost 200 years ago. the british got there ass handed to them then, and now he is pissed off. someone pissed in his cheerios one day, and now he takes it out on everyone else. problem is sir, that the british do not mass produce any automobiles anymore, other than a few odds and ends.
they knew they sucked at building cars, so they got out of the business long ago.
so who is looking forward now?

Clarkson has always had a negative bias towards American cars. I do agree with him on the Sebring it's not the worst car in the world but Chrysler really dropped the ball when it came to interior quality. His snippet on the ZR-1 was typical Clarkson. bring out one or two positives about the car and then hammer the rest of the review with negative points (some only he cares about) and add a few shots at American politics while he's at it. I'll wait until Motorweek gets a chance to drive it. That show has always been fairly neutral when it comes to bias and the reviews are usually positive (though they will point out bad areas if needed)

British cars are just so well built....I mean, you can get up to 12,000 miles in a new Jaguar or Land Rover without a mechanic- but that's only the one's that aren't built by Ford. Yes, it sucks, but at least you have pretty interiors.

You can take any POS and throw in a "fabulous" interior and the British press with drool over it...nevermind the fact that it's the size of a tennis shoe and can't get out of it's own way.

I'll admit that I don't watch it much, but Motorweek always seems to love every car they test.

"We were a little dissappointed when our test car's door fell off, however this made for very easy ingress/egress."

Kind of boring too. Fifth gear is where it's at if you want actual information.
