So I've finally got the money......and will be home for good pretty much, the week after next (5/6). My dad's done some looking for me and I've come up with my 'final three' as it were......taking into account repair, insurance & maintenance costs for the most part.

#1 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood

Pros: Cheapest of all three, Runs on regular gas, has a ton of space, will be useful when I move out & can carry my dad, his buddy, myself and all our fishing gear up to Minnesota later on during the summer. *(This is an L05 powered car)

Cons: Don't know the mileage, what state the mechanicals are in, what might need to be replaced down the road......

#2 1993 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Pros: Very clean/sharp inside & out. Mechanicals appear to be in good condition (you can see what has been replaced so far), only 130K miles, comfortable & spacious interior

Cons: 4.9L requires premium gasoline, somewhat cramped engine bay makes DIY maintenance/repairs more difficult

#3 1991 Lincoln Mark VII

Pros: Not many on these midwestern roads anymore, beautiful inside & out (black clear coat is new), only 145K miles, uses pretty much same mechanicals as the Mustangs of that era, fits my lifestyle better than the two Cadillacs, runs on regular gas

*(Despite the date of the ad, have talked to the owners & they still haven't sold it....yet)*

Cons: 3hrs/140mi away, not sure it will still be there by the time I get a ride lined up (though it is located in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere...)

Fuel economy is not really an issue as all three are pretty similar (15city/23hwy/17combined for both Cadillacs.....15city/22highway/18combined for the Lincoln) and as I pointed out at the beginning, the biggest factor that helped me to whittle the list down was my driving record + projected insurance costs.

Wish me luck I guess

If the Linc fits your lifestyle best, go with that is my suggestion. If it was me personally, I'd take the Linc or the Fleetwood easy over the DeVille - never liked that DeVille body style.

But ya, go with whichever you would prefer... have you driven them? Take them to your shop too to make sure its not ready to die on your first drive also lol

stay away from air suspensions...ie. the linclon might have it and thats why it might be hanging around.

If not? I'd go for that one if just because its a two door and I like two doors.

I personally like the Lincoln the best. It is a more distinctive car.

You should ask for $500 off because it has those PITA to clean Chrysler lacy spoke wheels.;)

Lincoln...well...

Deville is too quirky on the mechanicals when they fail...

Fleetwood best as far as historical reliability...and the TBI 350's are hearty...
That's what I've found from doing a little research.....showed the pics of the Fleetwood to this one girl I talk to alot and she loves it :D

I was looking at a '93 Mark VIII.......the air suspension issues + the half-assed tranny really opened my eyes. Those that have under 200K miles seem to be ticking time bombs, just like N* vehicles w/their faulty head gaskets....

The Mark VII doesn't seem to be as bad as far as those go.......about on par with the DeVille (and it's 'load leveling system' in back) I'd say....it gets a lil extra respect because the 5.0L runs on regular fuel....

Those things will go outright, in favor of some mags (even before I put a new sound system in)......if I do try and knock some off of the price, it'll be because of the suspension setup.....

Lincoln Mark VII.

My brother swears up and down that Lincolns are screwed together better than Cadillacs. He regales me with his days as a car phone installer and finding shims out the ying-yang on Cadillacs everwhere and perfectly fit parts on Lincolns from that era far too often.

I am pretty sure he is pissed I bought GM, but I don't give a crap he had a lousy boss at a GM dealership in the 80s.
