I use to hate Lexus. I thought they were cheap, over hyped, and maybe even little bit evil. For some reason lately I've really liked them. It started with the LS, and after that I now like some of their cars I use to hate. Specifically the ES and RX. They just seem so posh.

It's really weird. I always use to wonder why anyone would like Lexus. But now I'm doing it. And now when I look at cars like the ES and RX I think "oh that looks good" even though I know they're ugly.

IMO these are gorgeous. And I use to hate the LX. In fact when I first saw it on here, I think I said something like "keep it up Toyota".

Part of it is because out of no where I started to like luxury cars. But the other part of it is that damn LS. It's so nice, it literally converted me. And that's why I wish GM would get their ass in gear with an American Park Avenue, and a Cadillac flagship.

I agree, some Lexus' do look nice, like in then first pic, but overall I'm still don't like the designs. The second pic I think is pretty bad looking.
I know, just because of my bias though I would still buy a Caddy over one of these not matter what. But I know what you mean :)

The only Lexus I like is the IS. They are all nice vehicles, but other than the IS they don't appeal to me much.

I've always like the Lexus ES for some reason. Specifically the ES330. Ever since I drove a friend's '04 ES330, I've been in love with them. The interior is like a sanctuary. For a pure luxury car at decent price, you can't beat a used ES IMO.

The GS is my 'Lexus of Choice' mostly because you don't find any other car with that sort of fastback design (that sells nearly as many units).

The LF-A is also pretty nifty too......partly because I see alot of Nissan 300ZX in it.

I know how you feel, I want to hate Toyota/Lexus. But they actually make a few vehicles I like really well! First off is the IS-F! I have a secret love affair with that car. And as far as compact trucks go I think the Tacoma is tops. I would love to have a Tacoma and swap all the "Tacoma" badges with "Hilux" ones. Plus the FJ and Land Cruiser are pretty cool also, and someone I know just got a 4Runner and its is a really nice/off-road capeable mid-size SUV!! But my hatered for the Prius trumps most of that!

Lmao! That's what I think. Sometimes it's just like... do I really want a car from the company that made the Prius?

I've been looking for a good used car in the $8k-10k range recently so I've been looking at Cobalts, Proeteges, and possibly Mazda 3s, and recenty came across a 01 IS300 for sale for $10k. It's got 93k but they do have good reliability. I've always liked the looks of the IS.

Blaahhh. I\'ve always seen lexuses as just overpriced toyotas. My uncle\'s RX300 was the absolute blandest, weakest piece of crap it has ever been my displeasure to ride in. He sold that thing in a hurry.
lexuses have no appeal to me. As does all of toyota\'s lineup. If I were to buy an imported luxury car, I\'d go with BMW or Mercedes.

I've never really liked Toyota, or Lexus for that matter, but I do really like our IS350, I just wish it came in a stick and the steering didn't suck. Other than that we're very happy with it.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm old enough to have armpit hair that gives me the maturity to not latch on to some infantile notion of "hating a car company." To me it's like "hating" a brand of soap...

But I've never cared for Lexus. True the upper-echelon models are impeccably built and engineered... but they still exude the look and feel of a pedestrian Japanese family car.

So much so that I was stopped in traffic the other day, and stared for a minute at the car parallel to me wondering what the hell it was. It was Japanese. It didn't look expensive. '95 Galant? Nope. Maybe those goofy '99ish Altimas? Nope, that wasn't it. The light turned green and the car sped ahead of me. It was a late 90s Lexus GS. Seriously, it was well kept but exuded luxury about as much as a Galant or Lumina from the same era.

So how can a (supposed) luxury car be so anodyne, so innocuous? There's no way on God's Green Earth I would have stared at a Jaguar, an Audi, a Benz, a BMW, or hell even a Lincoln or Caddy and wondered... what is that? Quick...can you tell one generation of Lexus LS's from another? I can't. I don't even know how many generations there have been. But I can spot any Benz from a mile away... And I know by heart each iteration of the S-class, progression from the W111, the W109, through W116, W126, W140, up to the current W240. And can do the same with any other true luxury car.

Except Lexus. Because it's not a luxury car. It's a big, ultra-refined, grossly overpriced Toyota. Little wonder Lexus has any appeal outside of North America or any other society where "bling" is entrenched in the culture.

Lexus exists solely for its owners to say "Look at me. I can afford a Lexus." Sure, that can be said for many buyers of the other luxo brands on the market, but in Lexus' case, it's the only type of buyer who'll ever sign over for the keys to one.

Sit in a 20-year-old Lexus (when the day comes!) and a 20-year-old Jag. You'll know what I'm talking about.

I have the same feelings for Mitsubishi. :yup:

Once upon a time I used to bag the crap out of them all the time, especially the original Magna, but after I owned a 91 Magna that all started to changed. I only had her for a few years, but to this day it remains the most comfortable car I have ever driven. Even better than my SS and Monaro.

When the missus was looking for a new SUV we tested everything, including the Holden Captiva, Toyota Klugera and the Ford Territory, but nothingcame close to the Mitsubishi Outlander in just about any way. We've had her for over twelve months now and couldn't be happier.

It was around the same time Mitsubishi started to get into real trouble down here with 380 sales. I test drove a 380 GT and I never understand why anyone would purchase an Aurion or Camry over one, especially for the price. If the Führer didn't have her heart so set on an SUV I would have taken it home.

With all the effort Mitsubishi Australia and it's workers put into trying to keep the Adelaide plant open I felt it was almost my duty as an Aussie to purchase a 380, and honestly I feel guilty for not buying one, especially now the plant has closed.

I wish Mitsubishi all the best for the future. :)

A brand of soap isn't going to damage your home economy. Or turn people against one of the things that makes your country great.

The Galant/380 is dreadfully underrated. I had one as a rental a few years back, just after its release, and felt it to be dynamically superior to Camry and Altima. Roomy with an attractive dash, good seats and good ergonomics. Materials were hit-and-miss, but that's par for the course in this segment.

I can't believe the factory's still running in America. I seriously have seen fewer than a dozen Galants since it was launched. It's an unfairly-ignored car.

But I blame the styling. And sadly, the '09 N/A version managed to get even uglier. I'm fond of what the Taiwanese did to the Galant, but even if Mitsu N/A had gone with that styling, it wouldn't have mattered.

In fact, the Outlander is the only new Mitsubishi I've seen in any numbers. I've yet to see one of the new Lancers (another best-in-class model) on the road...

I have a 15 year old Lexus GS300(not quite 20 but close enough) and you're right it isn't the kind of Luxury you would expect from a Jag, in fact it was just a Toyota in Europe and Asia. But I like the understatedness of my Lexus, I don't want to stand out with some fancy luxury car. Driving a luxury car just so everyone can see that you drive a luxury car is the epitome of someone being a douche. I do find it funny however that in one paragraph you are calling a Lexus innocuous and then two paragraphs later you say people buy them just so they can say "look at me, I can afford a Lexus". A bit of a contradiction, no?
