So I've been looking at this certain car from a certain brand......I've visited the brand's website, loaded up my model of choice and done an inventory search. My question is, if it says there are only 2 vehicles matching your search criteria at 3 dealers, is that necessarily it, or would other dealers possibly have a vehicle that matches what I'm looking for??

The internet inventory search stinks. The ones on GM websites get updated maybe every week or so, dealer websites get updated every other month it seems like. Our Malibu was listed on the dealer inventory for a whole month after we bought it. I'd go to the dealers and look through the lot, there probably are more vehicles to choose from than what's listed online.

The "matches" are really just matches as far as the model typically, and not much more. You'll never be able to find the configuration you want, or close to it, without just using the search inventory systems alone and going through listing after listing, at least with GM.

I use the GMBuypower system online ALL the time and with little tricks in the URL, change how many dealers listed, the mileage radius within which it finds them, etc. The best is when you hit a dealer inventory that doesn't have your model, and select search nearby inventory (other dealers). You can then modify that URL and get up to 50 model matches within whatever range you specify.

Really, the quickest and most accurate way to find EXACTLY the right vehicle is to head to a dealer and have them do a search on the system for it, within whatever distance they choose. This is what's done in vehicle locates & trades, and unlike online, they can actually pick specific models, trims, colors, options, etc. and find only exactly what matches all of those points.

In the meantime, you can play with the GM inventory system and go from there, well, if it's GM you're searching.

Yep, as are a lot of dealers. But just trying to see what, overall, a lot of dealers within a range have is the goal here.

I've said many times before I wish the GMBP websites worked more like the GM Dealerworld system dealers have, being able to put in a radius and specific options want/not want, and see exactly what there is. But, again, keeping that dealer only just gives more push to actually visit a dealer and go from there.

I guess The dealers don't want to make it easy for customers to find cars at other dealers. It would benefit me because I work at a large dealer. Maybe someone could start a 3rd party site.

Use the GMS inventory locator for fast and reliable information - just ignore the pricing shown:

Good luck with your purchase.

Yep, that's my main site of use...though that is the Supplier price one.

Supplier:

Employee/GMS:
http://www.gmbuypower.com/index.jsp?&partnerId=900003&userType=GMFF

Too bad they got rid of the basic GMBuypower that was the same site but just without Supplier or GMS pricing, but no biggie...you still get the same thing with either. And they're much better and less dense to use than the brand specific sites.
