We recently had a parts guy quit out of nowhere without any notice. Well they tried to hire a new guy but his driving record was too bad or something. So Wednesday as I was standing at the counter the parts manager asked if I wanted to work for her and I said yes. I moved from bein a tech to a parts guy yesterday. I wasn't making any hours to speak of as a tech and was about to fall behind on my bills so a steady set income will be nice even if it isn't a whole lot. My only problem is that there is always the potential to possibly make a lot of money bein a tech if it gets real busy, but at this point I can't wait for that. Also we are less then a month away from moving into a brand new dealership, and I really wanted to work in the new shop, but oh well. If parts doesn't work out I can always move back to bein a tech, too. I do like turning wrenches, but can't afford to. We'll see if I go stir crazy sitting at a pc all day, I know I sure won't miss all the cuts and grime though. Luckily I already knew the catalog and most of ADP so it was an easy transition. We'll see how it goes though, so far I'm liking it!

Congratulations. At least you know that if this economy turns around, you can always go back to your tech job. I think a lot of people are in the same boat at many dealerships.

Good luck.

Damn that GM quality! :D

I've thought of doing parts again, selling this time instead of delivering like I did before at a Nissan/Isuzu/Oldsmobile/Chevrolet dealer.
