So I'm polishing the chrome (okay...plastic chrome) on the Malibu this morning when I noticed something.
My Chevy badge has a nick in it. Looks like a rock was thrown up and smacked it right in the bowtie. It looks horrible. It's not very noticeable from afar, but when you walk past it, it's very obvious.
So after wailing in despair to my dad about it, he agreed that we'd need a new Chevy badge. Can the dealer replace it? Or can I buy one myself and replace it myself?

Also, I noticed something else. On the door frame, there's a bolt that sticks out, and apparently it's cutting into the paneling of the dashboard. It hasn't penetrated the soft touch plastic yet, but it still worries me. It's only on the driver's side door. Should I get that fixed as well?

Thanks in advance guys.

Buy the badge, clean the area around the old one with a good glue remover (acetone is good, but don't spread it around on the paint) then glue the new on on with something like Loc-Tite. This of course presumes that the badge is on the rear of the car.

Get the dealer to see about the bolt impacting the dash; you're under warranty, right?

Nope, I guess I should've specified that, but it's the front badge, which is part of the reason I want it replaced so badly.

And yeah, it is under warranty. I'll get it checked out as soon as I can.

A rock hitting your badge is not a defect in materials or workmanship which is what your warranty covers. Don't be surprised if your dealer denies warranty coverage!

The badge on my Silverado bolts on. I just took it apart and painted it black last weekend. It looks sharp. I'm not sure about the Malibu though. Take a look at the backside of it. Mine has a little stone chip in it too, that I hardly even notice until it was black, now you can see it more. :( I really can't see it being covered under warranty. See if it's like the Silverado badges and paint it black, or body colour or something, that would look awesome! I hate the gold. This is the instructions for the Silverado badge. It might be totally different for yours, though.

The screw in the dash thing, should be warranty. But i'm not entirely sure what you're talking about.

The front bow tie on my 08 Malibu was replaced under warranty about two weeks ago. It was cracked , top to bottom on the drivers side of the bowtie. Took about three weeks after ording before it arrived at dealer. Took all of 15 min to fix.

Yeah, the Silverado's badge is different. Mine sits on the grille, not on a chrome bar.
It's a screw or bolt sticking out from the door that's pushing into the paneling. I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow. I'm guessing it's a fluke since the other side is fine.

I know the badge isn't covered under warranty, that's obvious. I'll have to buy that myself unless the dealer decides to just give it to me.
I was talking about the screw embedding itself in the paneling.

WOOPS!!! I guess I have met with enough owners who thought that damage such as you have should be covered under warranty that I thought you were thinking that too! As far as the other issue, it sure strikes me as something the warranty would cover.

Well mine is in the grille too, except my part of my grille has a chrome bar. :yup:

So is yours glued on then? I know there's lots of different ways of getting it on, I have a collection of them. I've got two bolt ons and one glue on from the S/T-series trucks. :)

Well, I think it's glued on. The part of the grille that it sits on is just black plastic embedded into the grille slits, and it doesn't look like the black plastic comes off.

But your'e certain there's no bolts on the back? The Chrysler Pentastars on the K-cars looks like the Chevy badge on your Malibu (same sort of mounting) but it's bolted on from the back. Even if you take it off, there's a pentagram left in the molded plastic of the grille. Yours could be glued on though. I have it when they glue them on.

I don't really know...but you do bring up a good point.
I'll have to fiddle around with it tomorrow when I get home from prison...I mean school. :D

I'll get a picture of that screw as well.
