Ready for this........
I have the new C6-LT2.
Got it in KY. Had a 2 month KY temp plate on it.
Just went in to the MI SOS to get the Plate from my STS transferred.
When they enter the VIN #, it comes out as a Z06 with a value of $71 grand.
I have spent almost 1 hour on the phone with Chev. Cust. svs. spent a half hour with the MI S.O.S.
Chev. says its a MI problem, MI says that Chev. only reported one selling price to them.
The folks in India are useless.
So, called the Ren Cen and got a nice lady that says with a file #, they can kick this to the Exec. Floor. Guess what, no file # from India. They were going to have me call Cust. Svs. again and i almost yelled, no, please not that. I have been on hold with them through the call to the Ren. Cen. and am still on hold trying to get that #. Just wait until C6 owners in MI find out that they paid V06 plate fees! Its about a $200.00 difference. Yikes. Class action, much?

Thats why I liked Wisconsins plate laws, one flat rate for every car. It doesnt cost the state any more money to keep a record of a car if its worth $200,000 or $2000. MI trying to get more money out of people with nice cars because they believe they have more money (that right there should be a lawsuit)

If you want me to PM me your VIN and I can search it and see what it shows up here as. Unfortunately unless you do it in the next half hour I wont be able to get to it until MOnday, I can only access the site from work:(.

Treat it the other way around...you obviously paid for a Z06 but got an LT2. Demand they swap the vehicle for you promptly

Michigan went from "Weight" based fees (wear and tear to the highways) to "Retail" based fees, many moons ago. It declines for every year you own it. If you can afford an expensive car, you can afford the tab fees PLUS we have one of the highest gas taxes around. We ran the VIN here. It comes up as an C06 coupe. Chevy only gave our fine state one price to use, the Z06. I see a nice class action suit brewing, here.

And, now.....an update on our situation. After another well placed phone call, precipitated by an e mail from the Michigan Secretary of State, blaming Chevy, we have resolution.
There was a wild flurry of e mails between the SOS and me. Bottom line, every 2008, C6 owner has been screwed out of approximately 120 bucks or so. The MI SOS admitted to reversing the two codes (Z06 and C6). Maybe they are too close in appearance? Anyway, the SOS started out by telling me to go down and file for a new title and refund. At the end, they had e mailed me to say that they issued a new title and entered a refund request. What moved this mountain? Sad to say that i had to tell both parties that my next call was to my Attorney and i would make sure that there would be lots of negative press. That i would put the call out to all C6 owners and form a class action lawsuit. It should never have to resort to this. The way that Michigan was dead sure that Chevy supplied the wrong numbers. Anyway, case closed, i have printed out all of the e mails for proof. Michigan has updated its grid. Every 08 vette owner needs to go down to the SOS and fill out the refund request form. My gift to the fellowship of Vette owners in Michigan.

Cost me $15 to transfer my plate from my Saab to my C6, but I did it at time of sale.
To be sure. For those that do not know, in Michigan, it used to be based on the vehicle weight as that would compensate the state for "wear and tear" on the roads.
Now, its all about the revenue enhancements. The fees are based on selling price. In michigan, you'd see the expense at renewal time (annual).

Wow that is alot of money to title a car. I swear you guys on the East coast get raped when it comes to taxes.

We compared our income tax and housing tax to some relatives in PA and found that they pay a fair amount more than we do. Though I guess when one figures out our housing is worth money and theirs can be bought for a song and a dance, we end up paying more because our house is worth more.

At the end of the day we, in Oregon, get to avoid the nickel and dime taxes (auto, sales, etc.). Here the tax the crap that should be taxed; cigarettes . . .

Well, 125 bucks in my mailbox today and a nice kudos from the folks at chevy. Funny thing is that Chevy said that the state of MI didn't fix it for real on their site as yet.
Next job? To make sure that owners in Michigan know about this.
