Maybe the sanctions imposed on Russia by the US and EU aren't being applied by Korea?

That and, the car might be manufactured in Russia

Many brands are CKD assembled in Russia, including GM, to get round Russian tariffs but I presume the sanctions are restricting the kits from countries operating the sanctions.

Daewoo junk is about as popular in Russia as the South Korean Chevrolets were in Europe. Thank you for the explanation but why are hard hitting sanctions Merkel's Mercedes Benz doing so well when Lada without stating the obvious one junk Fiat 124 throwback sales are plummeting.

Lada Kalina sales down -41% it looks a bit of squeeze in the back. Coca Cola use to be a big buyer of Lada's, as part of trade deal for being allowed to sell fizzy pop in Russia, they dumped everyone of the Lada's in the UK. When l look at the Lada Kalina l can see why it never made it into the US apart from its commie junk.

Sanctions, and the drop in Rouble value affects middle incomes forcing changes in buying habits - the poor just get more desperate while the rich just have a bit less disposable wealth.

In face of dropping currency value, it's no wonder the wealthy spend it on a car, eg Mercedes-Benz.
I had to look up what a Chevrolet Niva was.

I'd buy one if she comes with it.

Apparently they allow the Russians to have a Tahoe with the 6.2L.

"The all-new Chevrolet Tahoe 4th generation - the modern all-wheel drive premium. This is a rare combination of elegance and technical perfection. This monumental recognizable features and charisma of the American SUV SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The new Tahoe is incredibly functional. It harmony unique premium interior with high quality materials and the most advanced technologies, such as Magnetic Ride Control - the latest generation of ultra-precise suspension and 6.2L V8 EcoTec3 - a revolutionary engine with direct injection of fuel into each cylinder and 4 cylinder shutdown system used in racing Corvette Stingray ."

45 Cadillac 38 -53%

When l look further down the Russian sales charts why are the wealthy not buying Jags or Caddy's then? But are buying Mercedes & Porsche from Germany that are imposing sanctions on them?

Because the Jaguars are old models, about to be replaced and Cadillac's lack of desirability is well debated on GMI.

I thought communists loved them Rupert, Fidel Castro used Cadillac's as presidential cars, Bush & Obama, Muhammad Ali & Rita Hayworth etc etc, it's Opel that consume mountain loads of cash that's well known on GMI. I am only joking how much has just been pumped into Caddy.

Wonder what Putin drives probably some big old tank Rupert.

The ruble depreciated most strongly against the dollar and the euro.

Maybe the average Ivan on the street doesn't give a dern about sanctions, he's just trying to survive and get drunk five to eight nights per week.

Can understand the average Russians need for a mobile vodka palace, why not a peoples car like a Lada how much did it cost the people ?

Typically Hyundai & Kia leech off exploit everybody's C4C, and now sanctions, they are quick to exploit others misfortunes. Mercedes & Porsche sales skyrocket under German imposed sanctions MMmmm that showed them.

Your explanation is the best so far Neanderthal.

Its really sad what is going on in Ukraine. Putin seems stuck in the 1980's without money or the power of the soviets.

It's potentially much worse than that - Putin's land grab and "protection" of Russian interests in Ukraine is frighteningly similar to Nazi Germany's actions in the Rhineland and Sudetenland in the 1930's and we know where that led.

Yes.
Wow, Ford does horribly in Russia, and they build the Ford Explorer there which is extraordinary in many ways.
