The problem is that our cars have a 16 pin connector hooked to OBD1 which looks like that:
\ x x x o o x x o /
\o x o x x o x o/
where:
x = empty;
o = connection.
an obd2 scanner will not read codes and I don't know if you can short two pins (or which to short) to get the check engine light to blink the codes out.
Would an interface cable from those guys:
