Rental cars have changed over the years. Going from bargain-basement spec sedans that were missing features like side airbags to a wide-ranging array of makes, models, and trim levels that won't make you more uncomfortable than standing in line at airport security after you drop the car off. But the best rentals carry on a tradition that started way back in the 1960s. The rent-a-racer.

The original rent-a-racer was a collaboration between Hertz and Shelby, but this one is way cooler than that. How about a 750 hp Camaro ZL1 from your local yellow and black rental counter?

If your local rental fleet is anything like ours, you can see cars ranging from base-spec Chevy Sparks to Volvo V90s, and even Scat Pack Mopars (yes, really). But this collaboration between Hertz and Hendrick Motorsports tops them all. With two cars that make you the absolute winner of rental car roulette.

The first is a Hendrick-modified Camaro SS. The 480 hp 6.2L V8 gets upgrades like black 20-inch wheels, a cat-back exhaust, and a strut bar. But there's also a No. 24 logo in the headrest and other Hendrick graphics.

The second is the ultimate. It's a 2020 Camaro ZL1 with a larger Callaway supercharger and new tune to help it make 750 hp. That's 100 more than stock and enough that they're probably going to be checking tread depth with every return. The ZL1 will be limited to just 24 cars built, with 200 of the SS models made.

Because they're so limited, the ZL1 will only be available in Charlotte, Vegas, Miami, Orlando, and Phoenix. The SS will come to 15 airports, all in warm states.
