Helped a Family Friend Buy a Used 2013 GLK

Let me flat out say, I am what others here identify as a value shopper. I have the cash, but its not going out of me if I do not perceive I am getting my money’s worth. Our Family friend, an older lady was totally set on a Mercedes or luxury brand, and being this might be her last car, I can understand why. She loves the styling and is not going to be doing any burn outs. Its practical with technology that is not totally overwhelming. I was honored to shop with her.

The plates obviously changed on the car already.
Impressions on the car are average. It’s a nice car, has a decent level of equipment but nowhere near my 2013 Equinox. Off the line it’s pretty peppy but again, it’s not as eager to lay down rubber as the Equinox. Probably the gearing settings. It’s not as quite but the technology suite is well thought out and simple to use.

It drives much firmer than the Equinox and the steering is much much tighter. This is probably the singular advantage it has over an Equinox.
The remote door lock and entry is sort of gimmicky. The sales person spent a lot of time going through it and how it works and all the corporate selling points.
Sitting in the back seat was an eye opener, suspension thumps and exhaust noise came through the cabin. It felt really like a CRV than a Mercedes. I got to say here, that the Equinox is a much nicer place to be in the back and also on the drivers or passage seat.
MB Onstar like service is really expensive and does not offer as much goodies as Onstar. For Example, yesterday, I called OnStar and asked them to reserve a place for us at a local restaurant and they did as we headed there.
The price sucked, but it seems like all MB dealers are pretty good at keeping pricing high. Being a value shopper, the only thing I can see convincing me to pay for it is that 3 pointed star.

Warranty
I thought the Mercedes Benz Warranty was Excellent. Though its not as good as Chevrolet, it covers everything, not just power train, and the dealer threw in an additional 1 year over and above manufacturer. Mercedes lifetime road assistance service too is excellent.

Customer Service
Frankly, I thought based on talk here on GMi that we would have waiters serving us caviar and giving us feet massage. Suffice to say that was not the case. Curious, I asked what happens during servicing of the vehicle. I was told you have to have an appointment and the loaner is $35.00 and only 100 miles, so I cannot drive to Vegas. The whole buying experience was exactly as we have at Weseloh Chevrolet. At Chevrolet, I also get loaner car service for about $30.00 dollars, unlimited miles, as long as gas is on me. I usually take electric loaners.

Would I lay down coin for a Mercedes? For me only as a lease.

Having done my research and she having done hers, she got what was a decent price for a low miles mercedes with a full warranty bumper to bumper

You get A for lending your shopping/vehicle savvy to a family friend. Lone females especially often feel victimized and jerked around at car dealers. Many have told me so anyway.

Sounds like "shopping for the 3-pointed star" vs. going out and fishing around for what feels good and drives right. But that is the buyer's prerogative.

But...those air vents? What is it, 1995? LOL. And the rear end looks oddly Toyotanoidal.

Hope your friend is happy with her purchase. :drive:

You hang out with lone females? How does the Mrs. feel about that?

I hope the airvents last a long time.. I can say with confidence the the Hoehn Cadillac Experience I had was much much better.
In my bidness I worked with a lot of women. Some of them became friends. A friend and her hubby were our Best Homie Persons at our wedding.

so you hang out with one lonely female?
Very clean. Wishing her many years of enjoyment on her new vehicle.

Btw, I call the GLK the cheerios box. It's just too boxy for the sake of being boxy, it tries too hard. This is nice example, though.

Thank you.

This is probably as partbin of a product as you can get. Everything is probably shared with other MB's where they could. That is probably a good thing for quality.
I haven't driven any of the competitors, but I have driven a GLK350. Nice, but nothing above a Cherokee or CR-V (ignoring the engine difference) in a major way IMO aside from the structural solidity that premium Germans seem to have.

Though I have not driven the NX or MKC, I'd probably consider them above any of the Germans.

MB loves partsbin stuff, and they are easy to identify, all the parts are marked with a number that has the car they were originally designed for in it. I have a CLK, but almost all the chassis parts are from a C-class and the engine/transmission and interior parts from E-class. Only body stuff is unique... but the parts are good... no 3400 engine or W / N body wheel bearings :D

I thought it was some serious cost cutting, considering other than leather, the materials really are not anything to write home about.
I don't know if they're any good, but I love the profile look of the GLK. I see them here all the time, and it's certainly my favourite SUV / CUV when viewed from the side.

I love the design. Its a very modern interpretation of the old G wagen. A Design similar to this sort of this mated to the Escalade would work perfectly for an ATS Based Cadillac.
I wonder if MonaroSS can give it a shot
Those big chrome vents are disgusting.

Otherwise the whole thing looks quite nice!

I will check if they are metal or Chrome
The first generation SRX had a very nice shape too, which could have nicely evolved. Instead they're stuck with the not unattractive but not particularly memorable current SRX shape to try and redesign.

The problem with the first SRX was the low ride height. It was a pacifica station wagon
Boy, you must really hate that family member to put her in a GLK. :D:p:

I kid of course. Congrats, it looks sharp!

Why are they not an MB star instead of four bladed? What a missed opportunity! That totally rooinz this car. :)

I agree but it looks basically like an Xtrail for twice the price

'Cause you wouldn't be able to manipulate a 3-bladed (think about it)

It's really retro also... Mercedes had vents like that in the 1970's... to the point where I wonder if they just re-used the old moulds and part numbers :lmao:
