Which do you prefer, I say that Horsepower sells the car but torque moves the car considering most people dont know much about cars. And what do you prefer saying; foot pounds or pound feet for torque? Considering that lb-ft is the unit of measure while ft-lb is the measure for work. Even though work and torque arent exactly the same thing. ;) Oh and what would be your dream engine? and how would you like it to sound?

I like both. I think an engine that has good low end, mid range and top end is the most fun. I hate when an engine lunges and then falls flat on its face and I hate when you have to wait until the engine hits 5 grand or for the VVT/turbo/whatever to kick in.

Dream engine? Well, keeping it SOMEWHAT realistic, 6.0, LS2 with cam phasing and twin (smaller) turbo's. I like the fat torque curves they are starting to get with turbo's. 90% of torque from 1800 just about to redline sounds good to me, if there is a way.

HP sells, but the feeling of torque right off the line seals the deal. And the propper saying for torque is lbs/ft. Like newton meters, its always weight over distance, thats torque. My dream engine? It really depends on the car really. If I had a light sports car, say a british sports car, a hi-reving major hp motor like a 302 chevy would be cool. But Ill use my Z for this instance. I would like a 427 small block, iron block, aluminum heads. Over 500hp/lb-ft. It would have to be fuel injected and I would want some type of Accel DFI set up where I can tune on the fly. I would have to have it backed by a T56 6spd from a viper or a rebuilt one from a fbody. It would be sent down a chromolly DS to a 9 inch(only ford thing Id buy) wiht a set of 4.10's in the back. The 4.10's with teh 6spd will work out greatly as I can get good MPG and great launch to scare away all that try to mess with this Z. So there is my motor. A big bore, big stroke hp and torque motor.

Hey, hey, hey. Enough of that. NO SBC in the Spit! J/K, I thought that was probably another attempt at influence. :D

He didn't ask for your Dream Car Bio! Just your dream engine. :D

About the Sound. Does anyone like anything other than V8s? I think some of the older raspy race engines sound good regardless of configuration. But for a daily I like quiet rumble when idling or easy driving and free breathing quick revving sound when on the boil.

"You can multiply torque but you cannot multiply horsepower."

Meaning that Horsepower is the most cruital, axle ratios, tire sizes and transmissions can do the rest for the pull you off your seat accleration.

Dream Engine would have to be the Duramax, chipped and propane injected, with the Allison and air lockers front and rear.

I think having to get an engine up to 7000rpm before anything happens is contrary to most people's driving habits.

you can never have enough torque. i know for sure that im not gonna rev higher than 5 grand in most street conditions. the only place hp over torque is gonna matter is when you are on a empty highway. that doesnt happen to often. torque is where the money is boys. well to a point anyway

When you mention screamer I think of that scene in 2fast 2furious where they are racing for the Yenko and the Mopar. The Import is staged and the driver revs the crap outta the engine, just screaming, trying to impress everyone and looking over to the dude in the mopar. Then the dude in the mopar revs that big block muscle car and the whole car shakes and twists. hehe I like.

As for the dream engines well I know there are alot of great choices but I'm partial to Buicks 455 that sat in the 70 GS. I know 360 HP wasn't alot compared to other engines at its time but 510 lbs/ft of torque is a good start. :D

I like a lot of torque myself. You see all the imports touting 200hp, but they have like 120ft/lbs - which leads to what I call it.

I love my LS1. 306hp and 329ft/lbs at the wheels stock. Plenty of power off the line, and enough to keep it running hard to 6000rpm. It's crazy how fast it runs up to tach compaired to my Mustang taking a dump at 4500.
