It's official. Hummer is back, and it's going to be electric. That means the vehicle, not just the hype around the return of the rugged off-road brand.

General Motors confirmed this morning that it will be debuting a Hummer EV truck through an ad during the Super Bowl this weekend.

"GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. "We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising."

What are they telling us so far? How about 1,000 hp? And 11,500 lb-ft of torque, though that's likely an inflated torque figure taken at the wheels and not at the motor. Using that sort of big torque number is common with EVs.

The 30-second spot will air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, and it will highlight the expected three-seconds to 60 mph acceleration times. GMC, which looks to be the parent for the revived Hummer name, will also take over YouTube's masthead tomorrow.

The full reveal of the GMC Hummer EV will happen May 20th.
