From GM Canada:

One question of mine, is the wave a rename of the pursuit, or a whole different car?

GM of Canada Unveils 8 New Vehicles At The Montreal International Auto Show

General Motors of Canada kick-started its renewed focus on cars today at
the Montreal Auto Show with the unveiling of an unprecedented number of new
vehicles at the show including 2 North American and 6 Canadian vehicle
premieres.

General Motors of Canada is on a roll, bringing "gotta have" cars and
trucks one after another into the market. Last year, GM of Canada launched
the new Chevrolet Aveo 4 sedan, Aveo 5 hatchback, and Optra sedan, along
with the all-new Chevrolet Epica sedan, Malibu and Malibu Maxx. This year,
the Pontiac Wave and Chevrolet Optra5 make their first North American
appearance, and the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G6, Saab 9-3 Convertible,
Cadillac CTS-V, and Saturn VUE and ION Red Line series will also be shown
for the first time in Canada.

"We have an incredible vehicle lineup at the 2004 Montreal International
Auto Show," said Marc Comeau, Vice President, Vehicle Sales, Service and
Marketing for GM of Canada. "Leading-edge designs from Cadillac, Pontiac,
Buick, Chevrolet, Saab, Saturn, Hummer and GMC are sure to turn heads and
create a new threshold of excitement at the show."

Here is a look at the new vehicles introduced:

2004 Chevrolet Optra5 ? Available in Canada only, the Optra5 is a stylish,
functional and sporty small car that will assure Chevrolet's presence in
the growing hatchback segment. Available in base and LS models the Optra5
features a 2.0L DOHC, 16-valve inline 4-cylinder engine with 119 horsepower
and 126 lb-ft of torque. 5-speed manual transmission comes standard with an
optional 4-speed automatic.

2005 Pontiac Wave ? Offered in both 4-door sedan and sporty 5-door models,
the Wave will only be offered in Canada. True to the Pontiac image, the
Wave incorporates sleek styling with peppy performance. The Wave houses a
1.6L DOHC engine generating a 103 hp and 107 lb.-ft. of torque mated with a
4-speed automatic. While fun to drive, the Wave provides plenty of room for
5 passengers and offers an impressive list of standard equipment for its
class.

2005 Pontiac G6 ? With its contemporary, sensuous styling and athletic
proportions, the G6 is a tightly wrapped package of total performance,
engaging driver's environment and outstanding quality and safety. The G6
features an all-new family of powertrains including a 170 hp HO 2.4L Ecotec
four-cylinder, 200 hp 3.5L V6 and 240 hp HO 3.9L V6 engines. The G6,
based on the GM global Epsilon architecture, also highlights a class
leading 112-inch wheelbase and market-exclusive Panoramic roof.

2005 Chevrolet Cobalt ? An all-new premium small car, the Cobalt offers a
diverse selection of expressive body styles, refined interior,
race-inspired Ecotec four-cylinder engines, precision-tuned suspensions and
dynamic wheels. The dynamic driving experience has its foundation in GM's
solid Delta architecture. The Cobalt family includes two models, a sedan
and coupe, and a total of eight trim levels, including a SS Supercharged
model.

2004 Cadillac CTS-V ? The CTS-V is the first new model in the V-series line
of Cadillac luxury performance vehicles and will become the most powerful
car in Cadillac's lineup ever. This rear-wheel drive sedan features a 400
hp V8 engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, large Brembo performance
brakes at all four corners, 18-inch wheels and tires, retuned shock
absorbers plus a host of interior and exterior styling refinements.

2004 Saturn Red Line Series ? The first two vehicles in the new
performance-tuned series will be the 2004 VUE Red Line, a sporty version of
Saturn's compact SUV, and the 2004 ION Red Line, a specially modified ION
quad coupe. As the 'Red Line' name signifies, spirited performance will be
an essential part of all Red Line vehicles. The Red Line series of
vehicles will be marked by increased horsepower, performance-tuned
suspension and styling cues.

The VUE Red Line will include a lowered suspension, ground effects and
18-inch wheels, along with a 3.5L, 250 horsepower V-6 engine. The ION Red
Line, aimed at compact car performance enthusiasts, will include an Ecotec
2.0L supercharged engine with 200 horsepower (estimate), and racetrack
inspired handling and unique styling.

2004 Saab 9-3 Convertible ? Following the recent introduction of 2003 Saab
9-3 Sport Sedan, the Saab 9-3 convertible is poised to reaffirm Saab as a
market leader in the art of building open cars with rugged four-season,
four-seater practicality. Based on the acclaimed chassis dynamics of the
new Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan, the 9-3 convertible delivers high levels of
quality and driving dynamics. By combining its sporty and practical
characteristics, the 9-3 Convertible symbolizes the core appeal of the Saab
brand

The Pontiac Wave is probably a Pontiac version of the Chevrolet Aveo. Pontiac did this is Canada with the Geo/Chevrolet Metro, which was sold in Canada as a Pontiac Firefly. There also used to be a version of the Chevrolet Corsica sold in Canada only as the Pontiac Tempest, believe it or not!

It can get strange up there sometimes.......

Can't wait to get a look at these in a month at the Toronto car show. The Wave is up on GM Canada's website and it is a rebadged Aveo. The Optra5 also looks nice but not sure how it'll compete with the new Mazda 3 Sport.

Fer sure....Chrysler Intrepids, Voyagers, Prowlers and Neons, a small Acura looks like the Civic, I think it was called the "CX" or something, the Pontiac Firefly, and I even saw some LADA's on the road, along with cargo and truck versions of the VW Eurovan?

My favorite was the "Camiones GMC" sign on the GMC dealership in Montreal.

Was it me....or are the Cavalier and Sunfire really popular cars up there, I saw them all over the place.

The Acura version of the Civic is called 1.7EL. Imagine a civic with leather seats and some wood trim and a slightly different front end.

Canadians buy a lot of small cheap cars and minivans.

The Cavalier is the 2nd best selling car in Canada - the Sunfire is 4th.

+ Canadians have better priorities.

Canadians are more apt to purchase a home and drive a sunfire, then drive a bimmer and live in a trailer park, or even possibly STILL in their parents home....

The Equinox was at the Montreal show too, but they didn't mention it, I was drooling over it for an hour, the Optra and Optra5 impressed me too, high quality interiors and just nice cars for the price, should do well here.
