GM is looking to feed the increased demand with an expansion of its Ramos, Mexico plant that builds its 3.6L V6 engines. The planned increase in output will allow the General to increase production of its next generation V6 engines an additional 350,000 units to a whopping 940,000 engines per year. The next generation HFV6 engines will also provide more of everything customers want, including improved fuel economy and a 6% increase in power. The engines will likely feature direct injection across the lineup this time. There is no word at this time if GM will change the displacement size for the next-gen HFV6 engines, but we did hear a couple weeks back that a Cadillac CTS wagon may feature a smaller 3.0L version of the engine in base form.

They make them in St. Catharines (the first, if not one of the first HFV6 plants) alongside the LS2, LS3, LS4 and various Vortecs. With increased use of HFV6's in and around the Great Lakes, the increase in HFV6 production would go nicely hand in hand with decreased V8 production... But I guess Mexico is QUICKLY becoming the placeto befor GM workers.

I believe Flint was to make the 3.6 as well, after the 3800.

Why? It's not like it's very good.
I was going to say the same thing lol.
I don't understand? There isn't much about the HF V6 that isn't VERY good. The fact that they are using the 3.6L version more often than the 2.8L version is a stupid mistake, but that has nothing to do with the engine architecture.

I'm sure its not just the 3.6L, but the increased production of the family. There has been talk of a 3.0L showing up the in wagon and even a 4.0L in the BRX and 9-4x.

I believe thats the motor that is in the XL7, maybe GM is getting ready to make it an option in the new nox or torrent...! It is a more gas friendly than the current motors in those vehicles..

I believe that the 3.6L is already in the nox and the torrent in "sport" trim.

Fuel economy of a DOHC is always going to be worse than both a SOHC and a pushrod engine. However, the fact that GM could make a 2.8L Direct Injection version of the high feature V6 at any time would make up for this fact, not to mention all the components for single and twin turbo applications are already produced by GM.

(The single turbo 3.6L drag car that one of the ecotec drag teams is experimenting with is north of 1700 horsepower)

So far the 3.6L isn't really very good as it runs on the rough side and doesn't get very good mileage. The fact that you can buy a DOHC V-6 from other automakers that get better mileage isn't a good thing. Hopefully the 3.0L directly injected version of this engine will do much better in fuel consumption. The ecotec can hold its own when it comes to fuel consumption why can't the HF?
