DETROIT, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Struggling U.S. automaker General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) is expected to ask for Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp's (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) help in turning around its business, Kyodo News reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the plan.

GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner is considering visiting Japan soon and meeting with Toyota's leadership to discuss the plan, Kyodo said, citing sources.

A GM spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

The Kyodo news report said Toyota was expected to consider quick fixes for the cash-strapped GM, including buying up its assets and helping it secure sufficient business funds.

The executives of the world's two biggest automakers may also discuss an expanded business partnership, including Toyota making fuel-efficient compact cars for GM and providing hybrid-car technologies to the U.S. carmaker, Kyodo said, citing sources.

DETROIT, Oct 29 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) on Wednesday declined to comment on reports that it was considering seeking help from Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), but said executives "routinely discuss issues of mutual interest" with other automakers.

"As a policy, we do not confirm or comment publicly on those private discussions, which in many cases do not lead anywhere," GM said in a statement

Ok, let me start. I believe that Toyota will want to buy the Pontiac brand so they can create a sports car division alongside Toyota (mainstream), Lexus (luxury), Scion (youth). They will also want to buy the remainder of NUMMI.

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between GM & Toyota. What does the Rick say ???

"Hi. My name is Rick and I've managed to completely run GM into the ground. We thought hybrid cars were a publicity stunt, our quality is well below yours, and our small cars are complete sh1t. Can you give us Hybrid Synergy Drive, the Corolla, and maybe 10 billion dollars so I can squander that too ?"

The nightmare for GM continues...

So GM is crying "Uncle"? You've got to be kidding me. Bring the new Cruze, and the Beat here ASAP, not in two years, and that will take care of the compact cars. I will switch to Ford before I buy a GM with Toyota hardware.

Where is the pride? As a consumer who is very loyal to GM, why would I want any of their products in the future if I new GM only existed because Toyota (their #1 competitor) allows them to.

I would rather see them fold with dignity. I mean, really! Are they suggesting that GM needs Toyota to build them fuel-efficient vehicles and Hybrid tech for cars? If that's the case, then they are just rebadged Toyotas. Why not buy the real thing?

And what does Toyota gain from this besides a smug sense of satisfaction? Does my hard earned money just end up filling foreign coffers? Deals with the Devil are unacceptable!

Mark Leneave (sp?) Is supposed to be on CNBC today and is reportedly denying this. I hope to catch him to see what he says. Let's see, 25 billion from the govt, another 10 billlion loan to buy Chrysler, how much money does GM need? Seems like they need to not take on Chrysler!!!!!

You still bitter because he didn't like your plan to save the company by giving free golf balls to employees when they bought a new car?

How simply embarrassing.
Yep we should all be embarrassed for driving the number of imports we do. Our government should be embarrassed for not embracing this critical American industry as well.

Just 60 years ago the domestic automotive factories pumped out not cars but many war machines to help us in winning WWII on two war fronts. Now 60 years later we turn our back on them and say die. If the automotive industry would have taken the same attitude 60 years ago and turned the finger up at us, there would be a strong likelihood that we'd be speaking Japanese or German today. We're such a "I, Me, My, Now" society it's pathetic. We have no concept of tomorrow, next week, next year, next decade.

Ever wonder why the Japanese domestic industry still dominates it's own market by a LARGE margin? Because the Japanese government supports the industry and it's people do as well. They have an extreme amount of pride in their industries. This same mindset is does not exist in America. We're truely spoiled and we're now starting to pay for it dearly.
