-Economic challenges heavily influence business in Western Europe, with GM volume down 10.7 percent in the region.
-GM volume down 1.9 percent in total Europe, with sales of 1,620,619 vehicles.

General Motors Eatern Europe sales reached a record of 318,245 vehicles from January to September 2008, with a marketshare of 10.4 percent , strongly outpacing industry growth in the region with a 43 percent increase in volume(verus 23 percent of the industry).GM total volume in all of Europe was down 1.9 percent with sales of 1,620,619 with 9.2 percent share.

"We are facing an unprecedented set of economic challenges due to the global economic crisis", said Carl Peter Forster , President of GM Europe. "The credit crisis and inflation from surging oil and commodities prices have seriously hurt consumer confidence. We're doing everything we can to manage this challenging period with a host of new products- including the new Opel Insignia and the Chevrolet Cruze- and by managing our production and costs as tightly as possible.

"But we also need help from political leaders to turn the situation around. At the EU level, and within political leadership of individual countries, action must be taken to stimulate the economy , relieve the credit crunch, and restore consumer confidence," added Forster.

Some mixed news - but good news for Chevy at least.

Looking at the chart, I find it somewhat ironic that Hummer sales are actually up 9.5%, Caddy sales are up by 3.1%, and Chevy sales are up by 16.8% --- while while Saab sales have slid by 16.8%, Opel/Vauxhall sales slipped by 6.1%, and Corvette sales dropped by 11.8% for all of Europe.

With the exception of Chevy that is making good inroads in Eastern Europe, those are percentages I wouldn't have necessarily expected.

GM sales down more than 9 TIMES as much (percentage basis) as the whole market.

GM market share down.

Opel/Vauxhall sales down more than 30 TIMES as much (percentage basis) as the whole market.

Saab as bad in Europe as it is in the U.S. Sales in a free fall.

Cadillac/Hummer/Corvette sales continues to be too small to even register.

The bright spot? Russians love rebadged Daewoos.

At least Chevy is up somewhere in the world. I thought Europe was in a big credit debacle too, if that's the case then GM sales numbers are even more impressive. Lets hope it continues.

According to this, Chrysler sales have an upbeat too. Apparently Chrysler from August to September of this year is up 10%. That's pretty impressive considering the issues we have with our economy here.

even more reason for GM to drop Saab on it's ass. The company sure as hell isn't selling anything in America and European numbers are down also. If GM wants to cut wasteful spending and get rid of brands i think Saab and Hummer are the first places to look. I can't believe some people are suggesting we get rid of GMC and Pontiac before these two cancers.

That seems to be about the strength of it, Sir.

Well, both Vectra and Astra are at the end of their life cycle. Only Corsa is a new model and I think that Agila-the small car has just been launched.
Found a picture of it. Pretty nice car, so I'll post a link to it even it's not hot news.
