GM Europe Sets All-Time Sales Record in 2007

Sales of 2,004,172 units from January to November beat last year's total with a month to spare.

Highlights:
- GM Europe YTD share up 0.3 point, at 9.5 percent
- GM Europe YTD sales 157,282 vehicles ahead of last year
- YTD: Opel/Vauxhall grows 4 percent, Chevrolet up 32 percent

General Motors (GM) Europe set a new all-time record, with sales of 2,004,172 vehicles from January to November 2007, beating last year's total with a month to spare. The resulting market share of 9.5 percent is 0.3 point above the same period last year and the highest since 1999.

Chevrolet was the main driver of the sales results, with 32.4 percent growth in the January-November period. The brand sold 411,582 units, with a record market share of 1.9 percent. Opel/Vauxhall also delivered good results, with 4.1 percent growth and sales of 1,506,657 units in the period.

"The all-time sales record clearly reflects the success of GM Europe's multi-brand strategy. This is a result of building strong brands, offering attractive cars and a special focus on building our sales in Central and Eastern Europe. While Chevrolet is the main driver of the unit sales growth, our focus on the quality of sales for Opel and Vauxhall is also paying dividends with excellent progress in key retail segments", said Jonathan Browning, GM Europe Vice President for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales.

Good news again comes from Europe. Too bad we haven't seen the same growth
in the USA. I'd like to see the sales volume of each GM model sold. It would
be especially important to see how Cadillac is doing in Europe. Has the " All New"
CTS been received any better than the outgoing model?

Wow! It's great to see GM doing very well in Europe but we are still waiting for GM to get everything back on track here in North America. Never the less, GM is and has been making big strides in doing just that with the all of the new cars and trucks that have either been on the market for sometime or are coming to the market in the near future. Either way its good to see GM doing very well overseas. :yup:

what do the french drive?
Peugeots, Citroens, and Renaults. I don't have data, but you sure see alot of the homegrown crowd. There are also lots of Opels and Fords and VWs in the low and middle segments, and lots of Germans (BMWs, Mercedes, Audis) in the middle and upper segments. Skoda, Fiat, Seat are also popular and appear to be gaining in popularity. I don't see all that many Lancias or Alfas. There are more and more Chevrolets, lots of Dacias, increasing numbers of Toyotas, not that many Hondas, Nissans, Mazdas, and Chryslers. Hyundai and Suzuki and Kia don't appear to register all that high, and Mitsubishi not at all.

Again, this is all anecdotal... I'll try and find some real data this afternoon. Still, no question that the French buy huge numbers of their own vehicles.

GME sold more H2s than CTS at a rate of about 2-1. However, the new CTS wasn't really available in '07. I do see 309 North American Vehicles in there including two Enclaves... and a GMC Safari. :)

I remember many people saying that it was pointless to sell big gas-guzzler in a land of small ****ty cars. Look that this gas hog sells better than all Cadillacs excluding the bland-European style BLS. Personally I see more Escalades than any other Cadillacs on the streets.

Found a bit of data on the top 10 selling vehicles in France in 2007:

Peugeot 207: 131,623
Renault Clio: 115,089
Renault Scenic: 103,437
Citroen C4 Picasso: 72,697
Peugeot 307: 65,799
Citroen C3: 61,522
Renault Megane: 51,905
Citroen C4: 46,647
Peugeot 407: 41,770
VW Golf: 39,559

One non-French car in the top 10, and it's a German, and it's at number 10. Nice to see the French supporting their brands! 3 Peugeots, 3 Renaults, and 3 Citroens... the French makes take 95% of the top-10 sales (37% for Renault, 33% for Peugeot, and 25% for Citroen). That's refreshing to see.

Nice to hear that GM has had record unit sales in Europe, though during times in the 80's and 90's, GM seemed to be experiencing record share in the mid-13's. Just imagine unit sales today if GM had maintained its market share from back then.

Yep. 100 Escalades per month (official imports) is hard to argue with. The H3 sold even better and the H2 wasn't far behind. The H3 sold just as well as the Corvette, the best-selling North American import. They even moved well over 1,000 TrailBlazers.

The trailblazer sales surprised me. Then when you think about it...It has a powerful six cylinder, a suspension that can be tuned a little more firm for decent high speed stability, and it has low range gearing and it's fairly cheap. There isn't many products like it in Europe (compared to the USA).

I bet a Tahoe Z71 would be a hit when compared to the sales of the current model overseas. I'd like to see more Expeditions, Suburban Z71s, and Tahoe Z71s used by the UN than those Land Cruisers.

If the Escalade is going to stay body on frame, then I'd like it to have some Range Rover style capability. Maybe one of those suspensions that can be lowered when driving on the highway but lifted when off roading. The VW Toureg has one and I think the LR3 has it too.

It doesn't need H2 capability, but maybe they should add in a low range and locking diff out back.

Hummer seems to be moving to a more "real" off road brand (what Land Rover used to be and what the Jeep Wrangler still is). I see no reason for the Escalade not to have some credentials. Those gimmicky things that yuppies like to talk about, such as hill desecent and air suspension will give them their conversation pieces. The locking diff and low range will give them the capability.

Is the Hummer H2 four wheel drive system specific to Hummer? I though the Escalade already used a similar center diff but without the reduction gear or G80 diff.

Viva is the most embarrassing product that ever wore chevrolet badge. It's actually a ...Lada Niva.[/url]
I was almost positive the VIva was an Astra G brought back to life with a Chevy badge while the rebodied Lada Niva is actually the just the Chevrolet Niva?
AndrewGS is perfectly right - the Viva is a slightly restyled Astra G sedan, and the Chevrolet Niva is based on the earlier Lada Niva of 1978.

BTW, about half of European sales for the Chevrolet Lacetti come from the Russian market, where it's currently at the 7th place among foreign-branded cars. See https://www.gminsidenews.com/posts/1346738/.
