That sucks.....Glad I have Chevrolet and Pontiac
Recently I tried to purchase parts at employee cost for my 2008 Saturn Vue and was told by the agent that GM employees cannot purchase Saturn Parts at Employee Cost and that Saturn Employees cannot purchase GM parts at Employee Cost. I thought that the two divisions have combined? So what the Deal?
I appreciate you concerns for the many dealers that sell parts and their ability to make a profit selling to the general public but as a GM employee , both salary and hourly, one of the benefits is the ability to purchase GM parts at cost (eg. Fuel Pressure Regulator List for $138 and sells for $65 employee cost). I was only questioning the decesion of "Why when all the product divisions and under the umbrella of GM that there would such a split in distributiion of parts?" The Outlook and the Acadia are virtually the same vehicles but the parts divided between the two divisions. GMSPO does not distribute Saturn Outlook Parts but they do distribute all other parts of cars and trucks of the GM line at facilities like Willow Run, Drayton Plains, and Flint Michigan.Saturn parts is still independent of GMSPO in many respects...if I seem to recall all their parts come from Spring Hill direct, then they are transferred to a local GMSPO PDC where they are sent out on the dedicated delivery trucks that also deliver to the "regular" GM dealerships... SAAB & Isuzu are also independent of GMSPO's direct control and they use common carriers to deliver their parts product last I'm aware.
Because I'm a Cadillac/GMC store, I can't order Saturn, SAAB, Isuzu or medium duty exclusive parts...and therefore I must procure from such stated dealerships...
IMO, if we were allowed a full spectrum on Saturn (for example) their retail & wholesale parts sales from the Saturn exclusive outlets would fall flat on the face...
As for a discount from a regular dealer...well we give our GM factory employees 15% off on parts purchases...
For years I was always relucant, as dealer employees were never offered GMS pricing (and we still don't have the parameters that the factory folks get) yet we were the ones selling and fixing their product!!!!!!!!!
I've softened my stance a little bit over the years!
