The new FWD Ford Escort is a China-only model and in reality is just a rename of the Ford Focus Classic, the previous model of the Ford Focus - just like Daewoo's used to be previous model Opels.
LOL "Classic" C and C1 more like Hertz/Avis/Euro SSss platform that makes up the fast majority of 2 million Hertz worldwide fleet of car sales every year. Dull boring anodyne would have been a better description than you just used Rupert LOL "Classic" l still await a Focus. Quentin Willson and Jodie Kidd talk classic cars on "The Classic Car Show" how many anodyne dull Focus's made onto the show. Money Supermarket car rentals website is about as classic as a Ford Focus will ever get. Cortina/Taunus & Escort were always at the No1 spot in Europe because they appealed to the Private/Fleet Rental buyer in equal measures, Ford lost that ages ago the Focus is purely aimed at bought by Fleet/Rentals, not a very appealing to private buyers.

This Escort would probably tread on the toes of the Fiesta Sedan Stateside, but it would do very well in Europe it could help cut 76% of sales to Fleet/Rentals market that Ford dumps most of its cars in Europe in at the moment normally sold in big batches at a huge loss. It might be more affordable practical buy for the more lucrative private buyer that the Focus totally misses in Europe.

The concept of selling an old model as "classic" to the fleet/rental market in Europe is absurd, it just wouldn't work - and it wouldn't work for the retail sector either as there's always plenty of old model "nearly new" when a new model is announced
