If they removed my redemption limits, i'd buy a car tomorrow, and maybe cancel it after that. GM has me for one more purchase at least. I rarely charge to the GM card anymore as there is more accessible value for example on my Amazon card. Almost everything except the full size SUVs ($70-80k) are capped at 1k now.

I think I have 4 options that I could reasonably get for discounts now which is way more than I had before. (GM Bonus, Educator, Costco, $1k off lot inventory mailer) Inventory is definitely starting to normalize slowly. This should line up decently for me as I need something new by September.

I should get first responder but not sure if that's stackable with employee.

Does the Marcus GM Card have redemption limits like the older card? Their site says:

“There is no limit to the amount of Points you can use on the purchase or lease of an eligible, new GM vehicle.”

Gotta be careful here. That link takes you to the new Marcus GM "Rewards" Card with lesser points accrued per $ spent. It might not have redemption limits but you'll have to spend a bunch more cash to accrue what could be earned with the original 5% "Earnings" cards.

Yes the Marcus card is 4% not 5% like the old one. I've got two cards, and old one and a new Marcus. If/when I get a new GM car, I'll see how it works out...

Did you score the 15,000 bonus points for spending $1,000 in your first 3 months on the new Marcus card?

No I didn't, I was converting one of my two GM Cards so I guess I didn't qualify. In any case I don't recall that offer when I did the conversion a while ago. As near as I can tell, the points are all there, around 170K which means around $1700 in actual money. Plus the new $500 means I'm looking at around $2200 discount. Maybe by this summer there will be something more?

I had a GM card many years ago but I never really saw the value with the redemption limits. I get 1% cash back on my discover card plus 5% on some items. I can use my rewards towards a car with no limits. They don’t accrue as fast but I don’t buy cars that often either.

The key is the original card and the latest card do not have any redemption limits and you accrue 5% on everything on the original card, 4% on the newest card.

Doesn't the old card have the limits based on vehicle purchased?

Isn't the original card limited to redemption amount by vehicle, or am I misunderstanding something?

Some cards did have redemption limits but not the earliest cards offered. My original card from 1993 has no limits but can only accrue $500 per year. My other card from around 2010 has redemption limits but no limit on earnings accrual.

So can we officially claim the new GM Marcus card has no accural limits, nor any redemption limits? The only diff is 4% earnings vs 5%?

That actually is not a bad deal - 4% on every dollar spent is better than most cards where you only get more than 1% in a few select catagories. I use my GM card as my "tax and tags" fund when I buy a GM vehicle and mroe recntly to pay for service on my Cruze.

My only worry about the new Marucs card is do they have the ability to change to program terms in the future? For some reason it appears the language on the original GM card meant the benefits couldnt be altered. The "2nd" GM card came out with no accural limits to try an entice 1st gen card holders to switch and had pretty good redemption rates ($2500-$3500), but a year or so into the 2nd gen card the redemption rates moved to $1000-$2000

The sweet spot with the redemption limits card was when they offered a "Top-off Bonus" (often annually) which allowed you to use all your earnings during that promotional period. I used it a few times but the pandemic/supply issues killed those programs.

Didn't they just do one last month? Or am I thinking of a different program?

They offered $500 Bonus Earnings for the original card holders valid Jan 4 - Feb 28. Once upon a time they've been as high as $5500 on GTO's and SSR's.
