I agree... but I think the Equinox makes more sense right now. Almost the same platform (stiffened Theta), and it has a lot of potential right now as a "green" crossover (32 mpg).

I prefer a PHEV SRX, but I have a feeling we will see it in an Equinox first.
I think the Equinox already is seen as quite green with class-leading mileage with the 4-cylinder engine. Not sure many people could justify the extra cost of a 2-mode.

The SRX, on the other hand, can demand a higher price and is in need of a "halo" power-plant.

In reality, GM needs both. Toyota does it with the highlander and RX, so why not GM?

GM is doing a knee-jerk reaction to this reported negative feedback. :yup:

GM should continue forward w/this smaller Buick CUV & show it at an autoshow early next year & then after the press & public sees it & reacts to it, then GM should make a decision to go forward w/it or pull the plug on it. :yup: :yup:

Should have been a Chevy from the start.
Chevy doesn't need anymore CUV/SUV's. :yup:

!!!!

I never really liked the idea of a waterfall grille on the current Vue anyways. I hope this re-badge idea was all that was killed, and that a future 5-person crossover makes it to a Buick showroom soon, but designed from the ground up.

That clay model from the CBS segment looked sleek, like an Infiniti fx50. This is the crossover Buick should get. Maybe even on TE platform.

I like however that the PHEV system will find it's way to another soon to be released model. Perhaps the coming Regal? Or if they do produce the Riviera, what an option to leg up the competition.

If this is really proof GM is listening to "people" (whoever they are) then maybe we should start bitching about bringing more RWD in and killing the XTS.

Yes, that is not something GM should forget about.

chevy cars and real cheap trucks to compete against india's mahindra and mahindra and others to follow.

buick - near luxuary no trucks suvs cuvs just cars traditional cars

gmc - takes chevys current trucks and also near luxary lineups of suvs, cuvs, and trucks

caddy - ultra high end luxary cars and trucks.... base price $70,000 cars would be something like cts-v series and also make esclade a subbrand of caddy for ultra performance esclades

Wow, and coming from a GMC owner. I have only recalled good reactions to the style.
Well let me be the second GMC owner to say that the Terrain is FUGLY and I wouldn't park one in my driveway unless somebody PAID me AND gave me the keys to a new Yukon XL Denali free and clear. Whatever stylist worked on the Terrain should be fired IMMEDIATELY, or better yet, sent to BMW or Toyota since exterior styling doesn't seem to matter for those two brands.

Something is very off here.

I thought that they weren't literally rebadging a VUE as a Buick, but merely utilizing the platform and/or PHEV system in an un-named Buick CUV for 2010/2011?

The picture of the Buick badge on the VUE grille was supposed to be more about Buick getting a product/system intended originally for Saturn than a real picture of that product, no?

I'm confused...
No dude, that was a real picture.

New GM did a good thing. Not only was this a blatant rebadge, but the VUE was that mixed-platform Theta 1-2 thing that got **** fuel economy and was cramped inside.

Instead he green lighted G8 and we all know what happened (or didn't) there.

There are better sellers than the Lucerne, but here are the the sales since 2006, it's first full year on the market:

2006: 96,515
2007: 82,923
2008: 54,930
Thru July this year: 18,193

(Fleet sales are not broken out)

I'll say this for it: Sales so far this year are double the MKS (9066)

The G8 sold 15,002 in 2008 and 18,095 this year.
Comparison of G8 sales to Lucerne sales with the expectation that it will somehow justify not bringing the Park Avenue here is absurd; regardless I'm not sure why you are trying to drag this into some convoluted debate about G8/Park Ave/Lucerne. Let me spell out my point:

Lutz's Lucerne/Park Ave statement, like this Buick Vue cancelation are both illustrations that the ship is ruderless, and excuses that the leaders aren't making the product decisions. Excuses for product decisions are pathetic and is evidence that GM leadership is still lost. This wishy washy 'we were gonna, but customers/dealers/focus groups/etc cried' crap is a sign that they don't know what they are doing with the brand, and is a transparent cherry picked attempt to throw off any accountability.

Where did I see an outcry for the Park Avenue? The same places I see outcries against the Buick Vue. The only difference is what GM claimed was the public reaction and how they tried to spin it to suit what they want out of the situation. I don't believe dealers picked the Lucerne, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if this dealer thing never even occured. I believe the Lucerne won for all the same reasons they've been reconstituting W & G bodies for nearly 25 years now. I do believe not giving Buick a badged Vue is a good idea, but its something they should have known based on their longterm plan for the brand (and shouldn't have had to wait for the public to tell them). The fact that they did not is evidence of a deeper problem: that they don't know how to handle the brand. They need to figure out what Buick is supposed to be, then follow through and do it instead of floating ideas & relying on the public to decide. I'd rather have a coherent realistic long term plan for Buick that does NOT involve the Park Avenue over a hodgepodge lineup with the Park Ave kludged in.

Incidentally, I'm also amused that this would have been a badge job, directly contradicting a statement from the face of 'NewGM' Fritz Henderson.

I dunno. I think that had something to do with it. That, or it was used as one excuse to justify cancelling it.
Hallelujah. After all the :blah: you actually reveal that you might not actually disagree.

Dude, they were just trying to recoup development costs on the VUE and keep their plug in hybrid on schedule. Then they became aware that this would be disruptive to Buick's brand identity so they did the right thing.

.
I wonder if Penske got upset at that GM was going to be selling one "his" cars and threatened to back out if they went through with it?
.
:yup:

I agree, that makes more sense than GM actually listening to critical comments from the public.

This is a little too responsive. A concept should have been designed and displayed. Then would we been better informed to give a thumbs up or down.

This reeks of a spineless politian looking at the polls before committing to a decision.

Not in the US, but certainly in China and other countries.
There is in US.It just needs to be great unlike Aveo and not compete directly with Chevy's or Caddy's models- price range.

I could see Buick having Corsa, Astra, Astra 4x4 or Cuv with volt-tec in the near future.

I agree. I'm waiting to buy something small from Buick - I just want to see how it all settles out and choose from what they do.

That be it - especially given how well its been received.

If all of this is true..... nice to see them adjust quickly and on the fly - makes sense.
i liked your avatar. Using J 1711 as your analogue, your annual gasoline consumption, the annualized gasoline mileage average is 322 mpge. Far exceeding the EPA 230 mpge figure, just as the ample majority, some 70%, will do.

The Volt is a game changer...

WOW, was just told the Crossover was directly canceled due to reaction from customers (namely online!)!!! New GM is listening folks. GM will be holding Buick to a "higher standard" from now on.
Perhaps they should have been listening when many of us online when we called for the saving/keeping of Pontiac. :yup::yup:

This might be the dumbest statement I've heard yet. How many premium brands have successful compact or sub-compact vehicles selling from 18-35k? I'll give you a hint: 2 - MINI and Volvo's C30, and calling the C30 a "success" is a huge stretch. The Astra is a dud as a Saturn, in my opinion mostly due to poor marketing and a few interior quirks that are brought over from Europe. Even if you did completely redesign the sheetmetal and the interior, it still would be an incredibly tough sell in the US as a Buick. People barely think of Buick for a mid-size sedan.

If anything, produce a smaller 2 door Buick based off the design done a couple of years ago.
