DETROIT - Led by the new, sixth-generation Corvette, General Motors reinforces its commitment to producing compelling vehicles with the introduction of several new concept and production models at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The 2005 Corvette raises the ante in sports car performance while maintaining a reverent connection to its half-century of heritage.

In addition to the 2005 Corvette, GM will introduce the 2005 Pontiac G6 sports sedan, the newest addition to an increasingly diverse, sophisticated and performance-oriented family of sedans.

"Great new cars filled with passion and performance are rolling off the assembly lines at GM," said Gary L. Cowger, president of GM North America. "The breadth of these new products will keep GM's momentum going and help define a leadership position in passenger cars."

GM also will show concept vehicles based on GM's all-new Kappa architecture, as well as a version of the Pontiac Solstice roadster that inspired the concept vehicles' architecture.

Here's more detail about the GM highlights at the 2004 North American International Auto Show:
2005 Chevrolet Corvette - Marking the sixth generation of its legacy, the 2005 Corvette delivers more power, passion and precision to reach a new standard of performance car excellence.
2005 Pontiac G6 - Stretching the boundaries of traditional midsize sedans, this Epsilon-based sports sedan provides exceptional interior room, razor sharp ride-and-handling attributes and unexpected refinement.
Saturn Curve and Chevy Nomad - Based on GM's forthcoming compact, rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture, these concepts demonstrate expressive ideas of personal sports cars. The Kappa architecture's four-cylinder engine, rear-drive layout mirrors the popular 2001 Pontiac Solstice roadster concept in size and proportion.
Cadillac CTS-V/GM Racing- A special announcement will be made regarding Cadillac's participation in SCCA's World Speed Challenge.
These introductions continue GM's relentless product offensive. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, GM also featured several new vehicle introductions: the Chevrolet Cobalt compact coupe and sedan, the Saab 9-2X premium sports compact car, the Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay crossover sport vehicles and the HUMMER H3T midsize concept truck.

yeah the solstice was approoved for production (and therefore the Kappa was approoved as well) weeks ago.
hmm, so I take it the solctice isn't greenlighted or not yet. Im interested to see if they produce it, I hope they do.
I want a 350+ cu in v8 Solstice, dammit.

Stupid GM and their politics....

its far to small for that. sorry bud.
THE SOLSTICE IS A GO PEOPLE!! Nobody told you??
...one more thing...production version @ NAIAS!!!
I am most most excited to see the G6, a long-overdue thorough update of a very tired soldier in a hotly contested segment of the market. I am soooo sick of hearing about the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord (and Nissan Altima?) leading this segment, despite their deserving the cudos. From preliminary photos/reports, Pontiac appears to have mostly a winner here.

I am much less anxious about the C6; I am certain Dave Hill et al have produced another Z/911-stomping machine. I like the preliminary photos, and I'm certain the mechanicals will be just right! Heck, I drove my mom's 2003 convertible, and that was a stunner (with 50 less horsepower!).

Then there's poor Saturn. They don't need a niche car (a la Kappa sports car); they need high-style, high-volume entry-level and mid-size vehicles. The Ion has been a whopper of a disappointment, and though the reskin of the L-series is an improvement, it just seems so lost in the mid-size segment. I guess we can't have everything done correctly.

Now, if only GM would produce TAFreak's 350+ cubic inch V8 Solstice...

i don't think GM is making the solstice for drag racing (i.e. sticking v8 in it).

Think Miata-like handling....I'm sure the cars p/w ratio will be more than good.

The solstice is awesome.
The Solstice won't have a V-8, anyone that said that needs to get their head examined. There is definitely an Eco-Tec I-4 engine and an Supercharged I-4 Eco. There is some talk about a V-6 (Maybe the 3.6 Global V-6?) One more thing...Kappa is supposed to be really obese, but we will see about that later...

WHAT THE FAWK GM, GIVE ME MY CAMARO BACK!! STOP YANKING MY DAMN CHAIN YOU AHOLES!!

sorry, rant off. Solstice coming out, thats cool. How much do you think they are gunna be? Anyone know if there might be a GTO there done up for next year?? New style, stuff like that? LS6 in side? Im going to make the 10 hr trip allllll the way out there, and I hope there are tons of new cars!!

it's ECOTEC/Ecotec, not Eco-Tec, and it's I4, not I-4!

i hate it when i see things spelled this way, however wrong i may be :D
it was greenlighted wtf? when was that I never herd about that...that owns. WH()T to solcstice being produced. I agree that the imports have hade the spotlight to long for the sedan class, I saw pontiac takes the crown in style. Who cares if the solstice has a I4,its weighs nothing..the miata isn't to slow and it has a I4. its power to weight ratio, not cylinders to weight...sheesh. As long as it can come in close to 20K...and has a manual, im happy.

Even if GM made freaks 350 HP V8 solstice, odds are he still wouldn't be happy with it

Oh almost forgot, when is this again sometime in janurary is it not?

I4 is not right, I-4 is right same thing as V6 versus V-6. Anyway this is a silly thing to rag on. By obese I mean heavy but its going to be pretty wide as well.

Yeah January!, it will start probably below 20K but not that far below...think 17 or 18 for the base.
Is it just me or does it say the Cobalt was introduced at the LA show? Did I miss something? I've seen the other vehicles that they say were introduced there, but nothing on the Cobalt. Maybe still to come?!
Mackingu, at least they didn't spell it "Ecotech". I've seen that 1000 times... :)

Killer!
:bounce:

Finally GM will race with a REAL car, not some fiberglass fakery over a tube chassis and street illegal engine!
