Does anyone know if GM still has an investment in hydrogen? Or are all their eggs in the Volts basket. A few years ago they came out with a prototype for a hydrogen car. Since then I haven't heard jack. Meanwhile, BMW and Honda are messing with hydrogen. Then tonight when watching the Men's Marathon at the Olympics, the announcer made a mention of the cars following he runners were hydrogen powered.

What gives? Anyone have any info?

They have the skateboard platform cars, I haven't heard anything about those in a while, and I think they have some hydrogen Equinoxes in private testers hands.
I sure hope they have not abandoned those awesome "skateboard" platform cars like the Hy-Wire as they could allow GM to literally re-invent the automobile.....I had hoped they'd be in showrooms by 2010 but now I doubt it. There are some cool videos about them on YouTube.

You are soon to find out a lot more information :)

Also, look up Project Driveway, which is still underway.

I found this....video quality not great but the gist of it shines through. I truly hope that GM has not abandoned this awesome concept.

Yes, GM is HEAVILY invested in hydrogen. The even have a newer fuel-cell system than the one in the 100+ hydrogen Equinoxes.

I wonder if the next step in GM fuel cells will involve using that new breakthrough membrane I saw on www.spacedaily.com that eliminates the need for platinum?! With so many developments about generating hydrogen from water without energy intensive electrolysis coming on line, fuel cells might leap frog the ICE sooner than I would have hoped for even a couple of years ago. Exciting to learn here too that the next gen Volt will replace the ICE with a fuel cell....they could leave the Prius in the dust. Now if GM can just get CDs in the low 20's, imagine the possible ranges of their cars!

Good to hear that GM still has a foot in hydrogen. Cuz knowing the cynical and jaded American consumer. If GM got out in front pushing hydrogen, they would say it'll never work; then if Honda gets out in front, they will say how progressive and caring for the environment they are.
