General Motors sells 21,000 electric vehicles in August

General Motors (NYSE:GM) sold more than 21K electric vehicles in August -- a new record -- driven by strong demand for its Chevy Equinox, Cadillac LYRIQ, and GMC Sierra.

This follows a monthly record in July of more than 19K EVs sold, an increase of 115% from July 2024.

The surge in demand is likely attributed to customers capitalizing on the federal EV tax credit before expiring at the end of September.

I stopped in at a Vermont Chevy dealer last week and saw many Equinox and Blazer EVs on the lot...wait for it...ALL WITH RED "SOLD" SIGNS ON THEM. The dealer said ALL of his incoming EV units had deposits attached for delivery before 09-30.

Looking for an EV and worried about the date? Our wonderful government has you covered. You can now sign for the deal and make a first payment before the end date, then take delivery in October!

Another glowing review!

The proximity sensor for the trunk doesn't seem like it'll work for many. A good concept but my guess is it'll be opening a lot when people don't want it to be. Just like GM's key left in car sensor that blows the horn a few times as a warning - great idea but it falses a lot and using the horn for the alarm is needlessly loud. They have to know this - just surprises me they use tech like this that probably isn't going to work for many people.

Exactly, even though the credit is going away doesn’t mean the manufacturers won’t be including incentives just like every other ice vehicle. I don’t know why folks think people will completely stop buying EVs.

Yea, a lot has already been achieved with just the first generation of Ultium. It will be important to finally fill in the caps with a Lambda sized EV and small/midsized pickups
