Down the line I'm thinking about getting a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP because it's the only G6 with a manual.

Of course, it is incredibly rare. And so are reviews. I've casually read about a dozen, and I dare say half of them were extremely critical of the manual (too notchy, too flimsy, grinding noise) and the other half said it was good.

I've heard something about early 2006 transmissions having a grinding problem between 2nd and 3rd.

What I'm curious about though is what real people think about the G6 GTP manual. Have you driven one? Did it shift well? What other stickshifts have you driven?

I'd really love to hear people's thoughts.

Go for it.

I haven't seen a Pontiac G6 with a manual yet (I've actually looked a couple of dealerships)...but it would be pretty cool to drive one.

GM has really botched the model designations of G6's from year to year.

Both the 2006 G6 GTP and the 2007 G6 GT were available with the 6-speed manual.

Furthermore, there is no mechanical differences between a 2007 G6 GTP and a 2008 GXP. Both have the 3.6L HF V6 and 6-speed auto.

I drove one a couple years back and from what I remember it had GOBS of power (and wheel spin) with the 3.9L engine. The shifter did not feel notchy at all. The engine was quiet and smooth, and you could just hear a slight roar from the exhaust. The one thing I do recall was being turned off by the plastic door panels.

I have a G6 coupe with the 6 speed.

I like mine. It can be notchy at times, but I swapped the tranny fluid for synthetic and this smoothed things out a lot.

I belong to a G6 forum and there are a few members there who have had problems with the trannies grinding, etc. But that seems to be isolated to the earlier builds.

Too bad they stopped offering the manual in the G6.
