This is why you gotta love GM, the sales manager listened to my story, Unfortunatly he could not give me less than half of what I owe on the Ford...So he sold me a new truck... !!! Go Figure...... But he told me to get the ebay motorand istall it in the truck then bring it back to him and he would sell it for me to pay off the loan on it and get me some extra for it as well.... Who said customer service is dead... :)
Kudos to this dealer! I would suggest sticking with this one for future products.

ecoboom: i stand corrected. typically what happens on site's such as this is that people come in here, post once to start a flame war, and never return. that is the definition of a troll. however, that does not seem to be the case here.

welcome to gmi and glad to hear everything is working out!

I believe EcoBoom as I've heard of other Ecoboost owners complaining about their trucks. I'm following a couple of guys on Youtube and their Ecoboost F150's have died on them. They have taken to the dealer and dealership has found nothing so far......

Also many Ecoboost owners are complaining about Ford's mpg claims as they are not seeing figures close to that mpg. Having said that the F-series truck is a great truck IMO however I would stick with the 5.0 in the half tons.

We're not that far away from you Ecoboom! Cousin in law works for Rainbow Ford up in Rocky Mountain house. he's not in service but I asked him if they've had any failed EB in there......He laughed and said "the Alberta oil patch is obviously not what this engine was designed for" They've had 7-8 in the last year (keep in mind they are a very small dealership in a small town)

Of course he did (the Sales MGR) What did he do for you? He sold you a truck. At this point He hasn't sold your Ford for you, and there will be "Geez Ecoboom I can only get $xxxx for your truck I think you should take that offer" Once you spend the $6-7K to put the Ebay motor in it.

BTW you haven't told us in your storey if the truck is chipped in any way. There is AM performance chips that ad 50HP and 100FT/LBs available for the EcoBoost! 520 Ft/LBs is crazy for any V6.

Might've hydrolocked on the fly........... somehow.
Think - just barely or just barely 'enough'.
Stranger things have happened......

Gathering of condensation SHOULD be taken care of by a design feature shown in the pic below. The stock intercooler has, what is basically a vapour drain attached to the bottom, where the aftermarket intercooler does not. Curious to know if the EB's intercooler has a vapour drain.

I'd also be willing to venture that way more 5.3L vehicles were sold as opposed to ecoboost per year. The 5.3 was in just about everything, not just the full size trucks. It was in cars and SUV's too. Other than select models with Ford is the same Ecoboost available, and those are low volume units, such as the Taurus SHO and Flex.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. The issues are here for both engines. One engine is a newbie, the other is advanced and will be a breakthrough for the 2014 models. Can't compare the two.

There is an updated CAC for Ecoboosts due to Condensation issues.

Fourth, I smell a troll.

I'll believe otherwise IF this guy comes back.
I won't. From what I've seen we have more folks on GMI who have next-door neighbors, cousins, uncles, and room-mates with EcoBoost powered trucks that have been through/caused everything from thrown rods to problems so severe they caused the moon to spin out of it's orbit than every non-GM forum combined. Now, some may call me a conspiracy theorist, but given this I'm skeptical. I'm sure some of the claims are real, but there is no way to divine through that with all the home cooking we know is going on. Of course, that's just the way it is on internet forums in general.

Nonsense. His story is also well documented on the f150 forums. Maybe it's just that you do not want to believe it.

We are all forgeting that the new, improved GM V6 and V8s have a lot of new technology (DI, VVT, etc.) which probably will make the first batches of them problematic and unreliable. They have been modified to become much more advanced than the current units, which have a good reliability record. I guess we will have to wait and see!!!:drive:

There's a good article on the Ecoboost problem including the fixes HERE

The problem has a cure, a diverted on the inlet tract, a new design CAC and a software update
to stop the truck going into limp mode. The annoying Part is that Ford did not make these upgrades
available to all F150 EB owner as a no charge TSB upgrade - the dollars got in the way of doing the right thing.

The least they should be doing is looking after affected owners who live in areas of high humidity and low Dew point.
All new F150 EBs have had these changes for a while now so the frequency of these complaints should be negligible.

I think that we're seeing quite a few problems with the EB already, I just wonder how this things going to hold up 7-8 years from now. Remember...truck buyers tend to keep their rig's a bit longer than car owners. I can see the EB costing a whole lot to fix/maintain in long term ownership.

Then they will have a lot of company because there has been around 300,000 Ecoboost V6 F150 built so far.

I think the panacea of disaster is basically a luddite fear of technology and suspicion of all things complicated
being bad. It's no different to people fearing rebuilds on 8-speed autos, problems with Direct Injectors ect...

I see future rebuilds of Ecoboost V6 engines as a great opportunity for the aftermarket to step in and offer
massive power up rebuild deals for Buyers. Once all of the problems are exposed and known, you can bet the
aftermarket will be the F150 owner's new best friend, Ford will have no interest in seven year old trucks.

Not a fan of FI engines from ANY automaker for ANY application, especially trucks. Small displacement engines with their smaller internals are inherently more prone to failure than larger, more robust engines when worked hard. Over the last twelve years I've had one engine failure in my medium duty trucks, all which have large displacement, turbo-charged engines. All these engines are over seven litres. This engine may be perfectly fine in passenger car applications, but in truck duty it's asking for trouble. JMO. Ecoboost is a fraud and Ford knew this from its inception. Sure, it'll do everything Ford said it will. But Ford banked on the fact that this truck would appeal to those who never really used their trucks as TRUCKS.

Just like Hyundai keeps touting their 274hp with 34mpg? Just remember, as I've been saying for years, that a specific amount of horsepower, no matter WHAT the engine configuration, will exact a similar fuel penalty whenever you use that horsepower.

I know only ONE person who owns an ecoboost F150, and he is extremely disappointed as his 5.3 GM trade-in got better mileage. Wasn't as fast but excelled in every other aspect, according to him.

Personally, I'm a fan of MOST Ford engines as I've owned quite a few, and Ford knows how to build engines that are powerful and reliable. But I'm not sold on this whole Ecoboost nonsense. Not just Ford, but with ANY small displacement turbocharged engine. Where I take exception is that Ford insenuates that there is no downside as far as maintenance, operation, or useage penalties. Certain things you will never know until you own one and have access to the "OWNERS" manual, then your eyes explode. Trust me, I owned a couple of the supercharged 3.8s in the early nineties. Then again, I doubt most owners ever bother to read the owner's manual.

Then I look at how complicated their nicely done 5.0 engines are, I have to wonder again. They struggle to attain the power levels and simplicity that GM and Chrysler produce with compact pushrod engines, with no notable mpg or durability gains.

Last weekend my wife rented a Fusion ecoboost to haul around our weekend visitors and I gotta tell ya, for all the hype this car has received, I wasn't impressed. It wasn't a disaster as the car drove okay and rode fairly well, but the materials even had me fooled. After looking at it for two days in my driveway, I would NOT want to own it. The Ford apologists are going to call me names but I've bought BRAND new the following Ford products: '85 Cougar, '89 Cougar (supercharged), '91 Cougar 5.0HO, '93 Ranger supercab 4x4, '03 Superduty Powerstroke 4x4 F250. I even bought my mother a brand new 2003 Taurus. Additionally, I've owned various other Fords that were acquired used. So I have PERSONAL experience with Ford products and services and I'm not knocking them, just voicing an informed opinion.

The 3800 L67 and L32 aside from supercharger couplings and bearings going bad once in a while were super reliable. The problem was the 4T60/65 bolted up to them. Engines will last forever like every other 3800 and transmissions held up fine in applications where they wouldn't be driven hard (likely Park Avenues, Rivieras) but an SSEi or a Grand Prix...there's cars on their 3rd, 4th tranny rebuilds

To see a higher % failures in the more complicated F150 Ecoboost engine vs. the GM 5.3 V8 is hardly news. But add that to 40k miles lower powertrain warranty coverage, and you get some p.o.'ed owners who post in multiple forums. In Ford's defense, they were hardly shady in their powertrain warranty coverage disclaimers. But all an owner remembers is "all that power with the mileage of a V6".
