This is a perfect example why I'm not a fan of these new fad smaller turbo engines. They are horribly expensive to replace. Much more complex, cost more to purchase on the vehicle, can cost a lot more to service and maintain and really do not add much if little MPG compared to the tried and true setups. The Cruze 1.4T is another reason I don't care for them.

This is the most riduculous post in this story, someone complains about an engine problem if true it sucks. But then you have the mindless cleuless souls taking it hook line and sinker. "Not a fan of ecoboost after hearing this story..." like this one instance trumps millions of ecoboost sales and rave reviews. Failures happen in all engines! :lmao:
We hear rave reviews about the performance. Fuel mileage reviews range from "meh", to "it sucks".

I have had to down size the photo but you can see the break. The motor on Ebay is about 3K delivered to Red Deer. The LS conversion was the first thing I thought of...hahahahah...I have a Ramjet502 sitting around, but the frame would not handle that. Hydrolock can be a cause. Bearing and everything else look good, I am sure I could fill in the block and put a new connecting rod in the block and carry on, just worried about the turbos now.

I started this to get the buzz going about Ecoboost engines and the way Ford has "NOT" stepped up in any way. Like I said, I am a Chevy guy with deep regrets. Take it for what it is or not, this is not a scam or troll what ever that means. I am trying to get the info out to the masses that the Ford Ecoboost engine has issues. Sure mine could be a lemon and I except that, but Ford's lack of interest is a whole nother story. I am off to Kipp Scott Chevy today to talk to the sales manager to see if they want this truck and help me get in to a reliable vehicle.

I was on Fordf150 forum and there are 4 failed motors in 3 months... This truck of mine has had regular oil changes at 3000miles/5000km's way under what Ford asks for! At 10,000 I swapped to a hi-grade turbo synthetic oil. lubrication is not a factor here at all. It's either a forging isssue with the connecting rod, in this case there will be more ecbooms. Or hydrolock where water from the cooler was pushed into the head after a long drive with the cruise on, increased compression in that cylinder, or this is a lemon block......heck I don't know yet, but when I get the truck back I will tear down the block on video and put it on youtube and like you folks to it...

I can't comment on the engine first hand, I don't own one. But sales speak much louder than vague internat rants. The industry is moving to DI turbo engines. As always the user most always determines outcomes.....

Just drop a V8 into it while its all torn apart. All your existing hardware should be able to handle a regular displacement V8, pending a few tweaks here and there. The 5.0 is pretty cheap compared to the nightmare of a motor you had in there.

5.3 has been around since... 2000? EB... 2011.
Ok. So using completely unscientific Google search results as data we can determine that with 182,000 hits in 3 model years that's 60,666 "failures" per year. Using the same criteria for the 14 model years of the 5.3 and returning 3,160,000 hits that the 5.3 has had 225,714 "failures" per year or roughly 3.7x greater failure rate than the EB. Math is a bitch when it doesn't go your way. I'm not arguing in any way, form or fashion that the EB is more reliable than the 5.3. What I am saying is that using Google as any type of indicator of reliability is poor at best. Now, if there was some type of report that showed the 3.5 EB was suffering 5% failure rates versus an industry standard of 1% (numbers are made up) than I would absolutely agree that the EB has problems.

Not defending the use of Google, but you can't say "math is a bitch when it doesn't go your way", when the math you use (in exaggeration, I hope) involves rating the number of incidents on two different constructions as the same or (constant) over time. That's a terrible way to extrapolate data and fundamentally flawed.

That's the point. Searching "ecoboost failures" and then using the search results as any form of data doesn't tell you anything. It was suggested to search 'ecoboost failures' to look at the volume of search results. I said to perform the same with 'GM 5.3 failures' to show how utterly ridiculous that is as the number of search results was freakishly high and didn't really show anything. It was then implied (and thanked by you) that the reason there were so many more search results for the GM 5.3 was because it's been in service since 2000 and the 3.5 has only been here since 2011. I simply used that same logic to show, that per year in service given the search results, that per year it was still higher for the GM. Of course this doesn't show actual reliability ratings for either motor which just reinforces the silliness of searching for "X Engine Failure" and using the results to signify any real data.

When you state "math is a bitch when it doesn't go your way", you imply that the math you used is correct, when in actuality, it has no more legitimacy as "google hits".

That is my point.

On average, Ford sells around 16,000 examples of the Ecoboost V6 f150 every month, has done so
for the past three yearsand then you have some examples in Taurus, MKS, Flex and MKT.

All of this ads up to a pretty fuss free engine with a few problem examples just like almost
every other volume engine maker gets.

Complain all you like about the V6 Ecoboost but F150 customers are speaking with their wallets,
have done so for years and that's all that matters to Ford, profit and satisfied customers.

I think we're arguing the same thing here.

Well, setting that aside, nobody said to use the Google search the way you are.

You are the one that brought it in - and then knocked it down.

Google ecoboost failure
About 182,000 results (0.24 seconds). I Google "GM 5.3 failure" and get About 3,160,000 results (0.38 seconds). What does either of those prove? That the EB is 17x more reliable than the 5.3? Of course not.

When someone suggests doing a Google search - do you count the search results as you describe - or do you use the search results - start to go the through them - reading and sorting ?

This is why you gotta love GM, the sales manager listened to my story, Unfortunatly he could not give me less than half of what I owe on the Ford...So he sold me a new truck... !!! Go Figure...... But he told me to get the ebay motorand istall it in the truck then bring it back to him and he would sell it for me to pay off the loan on it and get me some extra for it as well.... Who said customer service is dead... :)
