Why buy a Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car edition, when you could buy ALL of the Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car editions in one go?

The Corvette has paced 14 runnings of the Indy 500, and each time Chevrolet has made a special model to go with it. Collector Keith Busse really liked Corvettes, and really liked pace cars, so he bought one of every Indy 500 Pace Car special edition.

Now those cars are going up for sale. You might be thinking it's not that hard to buy one of all 14 examples instead of a complete set, but you'd be wrong. That's because in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017, Chevrolet made a special Corvette, but never put them on sale. So how did Busse get one for those years?

He got permission from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Chevrolet to copy the paint and graphics. They were applied before he took delivery. That means that parts of this collection don't exist anywhere else, except for in a museum.

The collection will be auctioned off as a complete set to start, but if the offers aren't high enough, the cars will be split and sold individually. The sale will be at Mecum's Indianapolis auction on May 19th, with the proceeds going to charity. Each winner will get two tickets to the race on May 27th.
