Finally...GM Releases Official Camaro SS Image

Not the best image either, but hey, at least they finally released one!

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2284&cat=558

1: The SS gets the RS's 20 inch wheels and spoiler standard. Why you dont notice too much of a difference between the pictures shown already and now? Well, because the pictures you have seen from GM have all been of the RS V6 model, which will have the wheels and spoiler like the SS.

2: The SS gets the "mail slot" nose scoop that will be nonfunctional. Before everyone gets upset, modern ram air systems do not work like they did in the 60's.

3: The nose itself is bigger, with a larger lower grill area and a larger front lip that protrudes out farther then the V6 model does.

Other things that the SS will get will be larger 4 piston Brembro brakes grabbing 14 inch rotors, as well as 4 inch tail pipes, not to mention a different sound coming out of them.

Here is a V6 RS model

Remember that the RS option can be had on both the LT Camaro and this SS. The SS picture does NOT have the RS package, so it does not have the halo headlights as well as the darkened tail lights. So visually right now, there will be up to five different looking Camaro's. the LS trim, LT trim, LT with RS package, SS model, and SS with RS package.

Edited for your pleasure: Camaro SS out in the Wild.

A link to CZ28 that has a SS in real life, running around the southwest US.

Is there any exterior differences between this and a regular one? Other than the wheels, I don't see any change.
all I see offhand is the hood slit and small badge in grille?

pretty weak sauce right there! No special grille, special rims, special hood, or rear spoiler

hopefully there will be a LOT of available options on the color and stripe packages otherrwise I'm more than a little disappointed :(

Maybe in future years. It usually takes GM a couple of years to get things just right.
Also hoping for a spoiler, some more notorious rocker panels, etc

Ha. "It's what under the hood that matters".

The lower grille insert is different and the bottom lip of the front fascia sweeps around to the sides on the SS, not on the V6. There's also an additional body line 1/3 of the way between the front marker light and that "bottom lip".

very nice. glad GM showed some restraint and kept it low key. the stripes excess badging spoilers etc would have turned too many buyers away. this isnt the 80s anymore (i know the stripes go back further) and many buyers at this price want performance without the boy racer nascar look. and attracting new types of buyers is going to really help keep the camaro around. besides im sure you will be able to get stripe decals and all the other extras aftermarket soon.

shouldn't an SS be in the middle of the grill instead of the chevy logo?
yeah, but im glad it isnt. im also not happy with the way the new one is tho.

imo, they should put ss inside the bowtie on the grille. but change the bowties to black or silver. a black bowtie with a silver ss inside it would be really cool looking.

i dont think the regular camaros have the intake. if its functional, or can be made functional, i like it. there are some small changes, but not many.

oh, and no spoiler! a deck lid lip ok, but no spoiler. kills the look.

I have to agree, I prefer a more subtle "sleeper" look myself. Although...black with the Cyber Gray Metallic dual stripe package is kinda tempting.

You hit the nail on the head right there. I love the IROC-Z because it looks subtly WAY better than a base or RS variant. The small stripes on the lower fascia, the chin spoiler, fog lights and the hood blisters.

GM has become so wimpy. They're scared of making performance variants look any different for no reason at all. I'd love to have seen some more chrome, especially around the windows or on the rear gills ahead of the rear wheels. Maybe a single stripe anywhere. Those hash marks on the C4 Corvette Grand Sport would even be better than nothing at all. I'd absolutely fall over myself to buy a new Camaro with hockey sticks.
