Ferrari Purosangue First Drive Review: More than just 'the Ferrari SUV'
F1 tech, first-of-its-kind suspension, classic V12, stunning looks. Yep, it's a Ferrari

PINZOLO, Italy – Driving the Ferrari Purosangue for a ski day in the Dolomites makes things as clear as the northern Italian sky: If the plan is to make onlookers swivel in their ski boots, the Purosangue instantly becomes the fastest, most desirable gondola on earth. Now, all it takes is $398,350, plus roughly $50,000 to $100,000 in options, and you too can ferry a partner and adorably Moncler-clad children to frolic on the slopes of Aspen, Chamonix or here in Italy at Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta. Just know that you may still need a roof rack despite driving history’s first Ferrari SUV.

Now, if you’re still crying about Ferrari building an “SUV,” please stop: You’re sounding like that grump who’s still shaking a fist over Porsche Cayennes, Alfa Stelvios and Mustang Mach-Es. Maybe you’re the same grump. Look, the world started flipping to SUVs about the time primitive Explorers began flipping nearly 25 years ago. The breed has morphed and evolved so many times that the old pejorative “SUV” barely describes most of today’s car-based crossovers, which hew closer to hatchbacks and wagons than Hummers and Wagoneers. That is definitely the case with the Purosangue.

What an utterly vapid criticism; dismissing those with a preference as ‘illegitimate’ simply because their opinion differs from those who like / ‘are legitimate’. Like everyone has to get on board with every given consumer product offered, because…. why again???

He's not critising people who don't like/want that specific vehicle, he's criticising people who are complaining that Ferrari is making an SUV, as if Ferrari should never make a type of vehicle which those complainers don't think Ferrari should make.

"a grump who's shaking his fist' is a criticism... and it's simply because someone doesn't like a vehicle the writer likes.

I see ferrari thought it was a good idea to edge the wheelwells with 2 inches of black plastic, to keep the rims/tires from looking too large. ;)

I've always thought of that as a bad look on any vehicle. But "everyone is doing it", so it must be a good thing.

It's not.

Nice looking! And I like the black wheel well surrounds, bunch of grumps putting them down :D :D :D

Originally when Porsche first came out with their Cayenne and Panamerica I wasn't on board. But I'm all for such performance CUV's and SUV's. They increase the appeal to a broader market, look good and keep performance vehicles alive. Impractical two seat sports cars that can carry little more than a lunch bag is fine for some people, but a lot of people want to be able to use their toy on a daily basis - why not be able to have fun when getting groceries. I'm not one to go out driving for the sake of driving - so I find something a little more practical to be appealing as it is something I'd actually consider. That's where the Corvette has always gotten it right - it's always had that extra space that you can put some groceries in it.

Seems that not including a center screen to control various functions was a mistake. I thought it was a bizarre exclusion to then relegate basically any options/functionality to a few steering wheel buttons.
