Ford Motor Co.'s historic Rouge Complex is a special place for Jim Farley.

Even though Ford's chief marketing officer spent the past 17 years at Toyota Motor Corp., Farley's automotive roots really sprouted at the Rouge. That's where Henry Ford built the world's largest industrial center in the early 1900s with workers like Farley's grandfather, Emmet Tracy.

Tracy went on to become a Lincoln dealer in Grosse Pointe Farms and then a parts supplier in Alma -- along the way inspiring his grandson with a love of cars, and the business that makes them.

So it should be of little surprise that video crews have secretly been filming at the Rouge's Dearborn Truck Plant, in preparation for Farley's first major marketing campaign at Ford -- a critical salvo to revitalize Ford's image and sales.

When I was in Michigan last November, my dad, brother and I did the Rouge Factory tour. Well worth the time spent. We even got the bonus of the plant being running despite the fact it was the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
I walked away truly impressed. Watching the line run was something else.
