Well that's what NBC says:

This week, the Republican Party in its national platform called for an end to ethanol mandates in just the latest shot at a fuel alternative that, in some circles, has grown more targeted than treasured.

High ranking politicians, including presidential candidate John McCain, have publicly opposed ethanol subsidies before, but the platform approved during the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn., marks the first time a major U.S. party has taken an official stance against publicly funded ethanol incentives......

Although the corn used to produce ethanol isn't the same corn munched on at family barbecues, it is used to feed cattle. And when ranchers have to pay more for livestock feed, consumers may pay more for milk, meat, eggs and cheese.

I'm pretty sure this will explain the phasing out of ethanol from CAFE standards, and besides getting food and fuel from the same source almost never works.

LOL Redfox!

Unless gov't wants to regulate ethanol, it will only hurt farmers and food prices and will continue to be overpriced as well.

The government is supposed to regulate anything that is considered a utility. I see no reason why gasoline pricing isn't 100% regulated except for what is mentioned above. Thus, ethanol should also be regulated. The food, even when only livestock feed is suggested, is still 100% completely BULL****. Food prices have NEVER gone up because of corn/ethanol. It has been a good scapegoat for the republicans, though.

The ethanol mandate is a bad idea.

So was MTBE, a poison we'll be enjoying for a long time in our groundwater.

The more bright ideas the feds have, the more things get **`$ed up.

^^Cap & Trade is another con job. But on the plus side, algore (and perhaps cindy mccain and bammy too?) is getting rich(er) off it.

So it must be a good idea. :)
