That's a sweet ride! I have seen a few 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood limos that I wouldn't mind owning someday. I have never seen any Buick limo that I recall in my life.

Cadillac should not have gotten out of the Limousine business--abandoning it to the "coach builders" and stretch-conversions makes the brand susceptible to them cheapening the end product. The factory built limousines had for decades appeared all over the world at important events, for heads of state, and wherever other important people gathered. The visibility provided and the cachet provided to the Cadillac brand was worth the investment (i.e. the movie stars and rock stars liked traveling by Cadillac Limo). They were true image makers, and highly respected the world around. If GM had continued to improve the Limousine model, by now the DTS would have been re-made/modernized, and Cadillac would naturally be a respectable flagship for the Corporation. ;)

Just a note that GM did NOT make any "factory" limos except for the Caddy Fleetwood 75formals.

Not too nit pick, but Buick did make factory Buick limousines on their Limited series cars, they were available though about 1946-1947 or so.

Formal is a term though, in the earlier cars they were listed as a "Formal Sedan" which was a large 7 limousine bodied passenger sedan, but with no divider, and an "Imperial Limousine" which did have a divider, later by the 1960's and 70's they used Formal Sedan for the car without the divider and a Limousine for the cars with the divider.

Later non-Cadillac limos like this Electra were usually ordered as "family cars", they followed a matching Buick chassised hearse, Flxible usually was Buick only for their hearses ,which explains the matching Buick limo. Superior also made some Pontiac based hearse and matching Bonneville limousines, and another company did the same thing with Oldsmobiles.

There was another company that made limos from Ford and Mercury sedans, they even made a full hardtop 1966 LTD limousine, I think it was one of a kind.

I own one of the factory Cadillac Limousines...
1976 Fleetwood Seventy-Five Nine-Passenger Limousine. Has power-operated glass partition window, jump seats & footrests, rear radio and climate controls.
Black with black leather up front and black crushed velour seats in back.
Wheebase is 151.5" and overall length is 252.2" (just over 21 feet). Weighs 6,040 lbs (I had it weighed.) I bought it in July, 1999 with 59,474 miles; now has about 98,000. 9-12.5 mpg. 500-cu-in engine.

It is really fun to own and drive a limousine! Lots of room inside, the rear compartment is almost like an apartment! Quiet and very smooth ride.
Here are some photos.

The divider is what makes the difference from a Formal Sedan to the Limousine,

What a monster..

I always kind of wanted one of these, but of course there is the issue of where do you put it when you are not using it? It's like 3 feet longer than my already huge 75 Buick Estate Wagon. And of course since you own it, you drive it, while everyone else lounges in the back.

I'll take one with the full formal roof, have you ever seen one of those, it was a special order room from Cadillac, it did not have the quarter windows, and it had a really small back window for maximum privacy.

I guess I will stick to finding a really clean Talisman or d'Elegance, I'll make do with "only" 233 inches.
