2006 gmc truck. I was Wiping the inside of the windshield, and i bearly touched the little black bulb on the dash and it fell inside the dash. How can GM design crap like this? Even more so get away with it. Ok, so i knowi can turn my light knob to the left and kill the lights, but its bs i have to do this every time. Any ideas? I just want to control them manualy

i dont really want them taking the dash all apart, i know it will never be the same. Ive seen some pretty sorry shop work. i do all my work myself, no matter how hard, or special tools i have to buy. But im not pulling out the dash to fix this, i just want to disable it, i will pull fuse and see what happens, thanks.

The DRL fuse will only shut off the running lights that stay on during the day(That is seperate of what happens when your lights auto turn on at night)

With your sensor being in dash it will think it is night, ALL THE TIME!
If you pull that certain fuse you wont have any lights at all. You mustve hit the sensor harder than you think, I hit mine all the time with a phone book and other crap I keep on my worktrucks dash.

Find yourself a good dealer and take it in for warranty work. Why spend the time and money if you can get it done free?

I did not hit it hard, i bearly touched it when i was wiping the glass, and i was like oh, wow, thats just kinda loose, i touched it again too see how loose it was, and it just fell in. I now just want it gone, im not retarded and will control my head lights when i see fit. How many wires go to it, if i cut a little bit bigger hold and manage to grap it, can i just wire nut the wires togeter?

Getting to that sensor really isn't that hard and doesn't require a lot of stuff being removed. The whole top trim piece comes off fairly easy and shouldn't cause any other squeeks or rattles. Any tech oughta be able to put it back in to place within 30 minutes, The last one I did just last week only took me 15 or 20 minutes. I know I've seen more then a couple of those sensors fall in the dash.

over the whole 99-06 style? I havent seen one fall yet, but I have noticed they let some stuff slip on these 06-07s. like those super cheap General american tires!

I've seen it happen more often on 03 and newer trucks. Those General tires are garbage, we've replaced several just from vibrations found during PDI inspections, quite rediculous if you ask me.

If you remove the sensor the lights will be on all the time. You have to put a resistor in the sensor connector to keep them off until you want them to be on. The dash lights and perimeter lights on '03+ trucks rely on this sensor as well, so you may lose the dash and perimeter lighting.

I like my automatic lights. I never have to worry about lighting unless I want it a certain way. On the '99-'02 trucks you had to press the dome light override three times to disable the automatic lights, at least now you can just click it to the left once.

Will a chevrolet place work on a gmc under warranty? I dont like having anyone else working on my truck if i can help it, im pretty picky about stuff. I had a camaro before that had the dash taken out, after that, it made all kinds of sounds. I have extended warrany, can my mechanic work on the truck under this warranty?

Most people are picky...

A GM dealer can cross warranty...depending, contact the dealer...

If you have a GMPP, only a dealer can repair...if not a GMPP...then it's up to your plan...

My 03 Silverado came with Firestones that were complete crap as well. I had them replaced within 3 years with barely 30,000 miles on them and they were completely shot. I've had Goodyear Wranglers on for 15000 miles now and they still look brand new.
