Did we see part of the next gen chevy Malibu in 2011?

This might sound silly considering the current generation Malibu didn't come out until 2013, but I might have pieced together a puzzle. I remembered watching a documentary on chevy from 2011 called Chevy 100: An American Story and saw Mr. Welburn show a future Chevy car that has a sloping roof that looks like an Audi A7(Like the rumored Malibu!). http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f39/chevy-100-american-story-107098/ There is the link that has the photos of that mystery vehicle from 2011. Did we see part of the next gen Malibu? Someone in the comments said that mr. Welburn said it was a car for 2014-16. I can't quote that because I didn't hear it myself, but going on that, is that when the Malibu is due?

It is due for 2016ish, and this has been brought up... a hundred times, even recently. Doesn't matter though, since 99 of those posts are probably deleted.
Ive never seen any other post like this before.

At what point in the video did you see the car?

I looked at the other thread and saw this image. Is this what you're referring to?

As much as I "live on GMI", I've never seen this image before. I must be either half asleep or just oblivious to things. So it's a first for me!

Yes that's the car, sorry I wasn't sure if I could repost it here since I didn't take it... Well now I know lol. And I'm not sure about the time of the video I can't seem to find it anywhere online at the moment.
Those are definitely Corvette inspired tail-lamps, and the next Malibu is suppose to be heavily influenced by the 'Vette. Interesting.

That is true! I was unsure whether or not to post it because this would mean that they where working on the 2016 Malibu, before the 2013 Malibu was even revealed... I'm not sure how their design process works though.

I kind of like that.
That reminds of me the older Volvo rear on the S60. Always like the way it looked.
The rear of that design looks awesome. Lets hope for an aggressive but attractive 2016ish Malibu
That looks amazing! I see a great evolution from the last gen. Let's hope the brass at the RenCen haven't watered it down into anything like the current version!

You're totally living under a rock then (;)), because it's been posted like at least 25 times already, I personally feel like I've seen it a hundred times here. Usually followed by "Guys! Guys! Look, this has never been discussed and I've totally discovered something new!"
Lol but has anyone ever connected the dots?
... I've never heard anyone say that it was the next Malibu...

I had forgotten about this. Looks like an early styling exercise, but I can see it easily evolving into a production car. :)

From looking at this mockup, if this is an early 2016 Malibu, will the production car have the hatch? From the recent spy pictures, it does seem to have the full fastback.

And with the CHMSL mounted above/outside the window, along with what could be the hatch seam.

That's the second time you've said that already.

I'm a big fan of liftbacks like the A7 et al. Camaro would be at least 10 pts cooler with one.
IF only the next Malibu was RWD on Alpha and came with a lift back, wagon and Coupe

Make it 192-195" long. Would add some terrific volume to amortize the costs of the Alpha program and keep LGR running at full tilt.

Thanks for pointing that out, but I was talking to someone else...
I hope we see those taillights from that concept on the new Malibu. This generation was a let-down.
