I'm in! I can't believe that such a successful design was just dropped, way back in 1991, the same year it was launched (yes I know a handful were built in 1992). Dropping this vehicle was as dumb as Lincoln dropping the LS. Well not really. Dropping the Syclone wasn't brand homicide. Dropping the LS was.

What's with auto executives anyway? Halo vehicles are important vastly in excess of their sales numbers. Case in point. I still remember the Syclone. In terms of performance, it was compared to cars like a Ferrari in popular car magazines. That's free advertising....

A buddy of mine bought a new Typhoon in 1991 (I think it's a '91) - still has it to this day. Felt like a rocket! I certainly think there is a place for such a vehicle - I don't think it's much of a stretch to think if someone wants the Midnight appearance package they might want some twin turbo V6 magic to back up the looks.

Plus with Toyota updating their small truck, making a Cyclone will help keep the GM small trucks in the news and build a niche Toyota isn't in. Toyota has a loyal fan base, GM needs all they can do to make a dent. And Ford is waiting in the wings to recapture those Ranger fans too.

Nice chop!

GM has the hardware already, 3.6tt, just drop it in and give it to the corvette guys to make it work.

We can only dream I supposed :) Thanks all. It has been in my head since I heard the Canyon was coming back last year.

In any event, glad it won Truck of the Year and we get our "mid-size" truck back to whip on Toyota.
Just another notch on the long pole of missed opportunity's by GM over the years.

Syclone, Typhoon, Grand National even the 454SS still generate more buzz than all the money and engineering that went into the lame SSR.
But like the Aztek GM considers the SSR a success since it hit all of their internal metrics.

How cool would it have been if Chevrolet had a AWD SS based T-truck with the turbo 4.3L and GMC had the Syclone/Typhoon with a 3800 turbocharged for division rivalry?
Heck Olds could have had a W30 Bravada with the supercharged 3800 since there was one designed for the RWD aussie market!

Need a Colorado "Xtreme" edition too.
I had thought about that actually, but the Xtreme wasn't so very extreme. Nothing beats a Syclone:) HAHA
Would love to see this happen, wouldn't be hard to do at all. Unfortunately, the "fun" people went out the window long ago. Now all we get are sticker packages with cool names.

GMC Canyon Gypsy Magic Crew Cab AWD Performance Truck
The heart of GMC Canyon Gypsy Magic AWD Crew Cab Performance truck is the 3.6L 464 hp Twin Turbo producing 445 lb.-ft. torque. High-strength, light-weight titanium connecting rods, low-inertia titanium-aluminide turbine wheels with optimized compressors and a patented low-volume, charge-air cooler create near immediate torque response and dramatically reduce get-up-and-gone-time
AWD with Active Torque Technology - Sure-footed in inclement weather. Available all-wheel drive maximizes stability and handling, delivering impeccable control in less-than-perfect driving conditions at all speeds.
The temperature adapting Magnetic Ride Control suspension reads and reacts to the road up to 1,000 times per second — providing the precise amount of control for maximum performance and the smoothest ride in all conditions.
Beneath the lightweight wheels lie massive, race-inspired six-piston front, four-piston rear, fixed-caliper Brembo® brakes with vented rotors for incredible stopping power. Brake ducts cool the ferritic nitrocarburized (FNC) rotors – our patented rotor coating that inhibits corrosion while improving performance and appearance.
The reconfigurable Head-Up Display offers a full-color interface, which conveniently projects useful information, such as speed and navigation on the windshield. This smart system aids in keeping attention on the road for a more secure drive.
Android Auto phone capability for GMC Canyon, equipped with the IntelliLink radio system with an eight-inch-diagonal screen
Smartphone Connectivity With Apple CarPlay - Canyon, GMC’s IntelliLink infotainment system will support Apple CarPlay connectivity, which offers the convenience of accessing many smartphone features and apps through the vehicle’s display and controls.
