Charlotte, NC November 30, 2014

The waiting list for the new Buick Regal GNX began on Black Friday, 2014 at Liberty Buick GMC in South Charlotte NC.

The Buick Regal GNX was first announced in the 1980's and is making a big come-back in 2015!

"Customers have already started calling about test driving one of these new cars, " reports Scott McCorkle, owner of Liberty Buick GMC. "We are adding their names to a waiting list," he adds.

The 1980’s were known for some very cool technology. It was the decade the personal computer found its market replacing the IBM Selectric typewriter on office desks. Video games systems like Pac-Man and Golden Axe became an extension to American televisions, and who could forget the Walkman being sported by many during a workout or a walk in the park. But according to muscle car enthusiasts, the coolest of technology came in the form of high-performance cars – the Buick Regal Grand National and its high performance big brother the Regal GNX.

“There are just a few details available now about these new exciting cars,” says Scott McCorkle. “We do know that Buick will be offering both models once again - the Regal Grand National and the high-performance Regal GNX sport-luxury coupe. These returning relics will be based on the highly-acclaimed Alpha vehicle architecture currently used in the Cadillac ATS, 2014 Cadillac CTS, and soon to be in the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro. Alpha is the internal name of a General Motors vehicle architecture engineered to underpin compact and mid-size rear-wheel-drive vehicles."

The Regal GN and GNX coupes will join the currently popular Buick luxury sport Regal sedan. Scott McCorkle expects to have these new high performance Regals in his showroom floor in late 2015.

I sent an email to a local Buick dealer to see if they can tell me anything, even cryptic.

Could this dealer be violating some sort of manufacturer confidentially agreement?

Most likely. But again........ where are the spy shots. I don't think GM would just re-body a ATS coupe or a Camaro and call it done w/o any testing.

I do remember that some of the 2016 Camaro test cars seemed to have a different fascia under the camouflage. But I'm doubting a new GN would be the same size as a Camaro.

Maybe something internal has been mentioned for 2016 calendar year, the dealer is thinking 2016 model year and is jumping the gun.

Eventually Buick will get an Alpha car, just a matter of time.

A Grand National should be bigger than a Camaro/Mustang, in my opinion.

.

Perhaps they've produced a conversion kit on their own for the Chevy SS. Front Clip/ badges, etc.?

I'd rather see the "more beautiful Panamera" flagship than a GNX, it makes more sense for Buick in light of the XTS sunseting and the Chinese demand for legroom.
I agree this is far more important to Buick as a brand.

...and yes, the XTS is certainly "Sunsetting". Just look at the sales figures. I'm a little surprised by it....but that's another thread.

GMI doesn't seem to care for postings/links from GM Authority.

I think there was "Bad Blood" a few years ago.

It's essentially a no brainer with Alpha already in the arsenal. Unfortunately that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Being a sucker for a GN I will put my new car search on hold for a couple of months. Hopefully the X after the GN will mean AWD this time around because I need a dd all weather car next.

Greg said the owner was misquoted.
It is also possible that the owner got a call from GM telling him that he must say nothing at this point, especially since the GN and GNX will likely be Buick versions of the Cadillac cts V Sport and CTS-V, which are already known about and with the cts-v scheduled to be announced in January.
