Curve Confirmed for Production

GM says it is making progress on turning around the profits of two of its ongoing loss-makers, Saab and Saturn, through cost reductions and new models coming this year. GM product boss confirmed that the company will build the Saturn Curve, one of the Kappa platform cars at this week's Detroit Auto Show. The Pontiac Solstice and Curve will be built at Saturn's Wilmington, Del., plant. The Chevy Nomad Kappa concept is a tougher proposition, said Lutz. "Chevy has so much product coming already that dealers are starting to complain about where they will put it all," said Lutz. Lutz also said Saturn will soon get a " big brother" to the Saturn VUE in the form of a big crossover SUV, though he declined to peg a launch date. GM said its stronger performance in the second half of 2003, when its U.S. market share rose to 28.7 percent compared to 28 percent for all of 2003, will carry over into 2004. -Jim Burt

This will be Saturns biggest and loudest statement yet. :type:
I am glad Saturn is building it. It is a cool car. I hope the ecotec aftermarket grows so that we can hot rod these the vehicles from the Kappa platform. B)
I think it's great that the Curve will be going into the production, I would take the Curve over the Slstice only because theres more power with the Curve, The Nomad should hit production to, that is a wonderful look vehcile!
:mf_boff:
Any word on the Curve Red-Line? heh heh.... Curve's go a moe daring design than SOlstice... but I love them both.
Can't wait to see one on the road!!!
I agree its more daring and a good move for saturn, just personally I dont care for the grill, change that and it would be solstice level  but Im a pontiac fan so. I can see where dealers are complaning, they already have lots full of 03's-04 models and with all these new models it means they are running out of room, so they are going to have cut down on the number of models they have of a certain type in order to gain different models in general. I guess you wont be seeing 300 Silverados on a single lot anymore...seems like a good thing if you ask me.

**raises eyebrow** What exactly are you saying?
its great, i would take it over the solctice, only for the style. i like the curves looks more. but thats just me. the only thing i hope they change, and must change. is that huge *** eblem on the front. either make it small, or remove it compleatly.
Has it occured to anyone that this car would compete DIRECTLY with the solstice in a relatively small market (really only the miata and maybe MR2). Doesn't this seem a little like cutting the solstice in 1/2?? I mean, there's only so many people who buy 20K roadsters unlike the 90K ones that people will willingly buy one if the right style or name comes along. And sorry to every but the Solstice is perfect (save the engine) but the curve is just plain ugly, can anyone say Edsel coupe?????
Not everything GM is doing is terrible.

Let me see:

1) LS2 - Pure awesome in a crate
2) CTS-V - Classy, yet still aggresive and very fast... and somewhat economical for what it provides.

Personally, I think the CTS-V is like the "perfect Fbody" is many respects. It has 4 USABLE seats, awesome engine, is much cheaper than anything in it's class, looks agressive, etc. I think the CTS-V may be my next car.

That's it, unfortunately.

I do see a little Edsel in the Curve as well. Hopefully some of that will be shaved off in production. As far as the car competing with the Solstice- I think this will be minimized by quite different styling that should appeal to different types of buyers, and the fact that the Solstice will be a convertible, but the Curve a coupe.
Yea guys this is such bad news!!!!!! Dealers are taking away a product that consumers want and that has the possibility to sell in high numbers. Hello how about expanding a little to deal with the new volume of SALES!!!

Yes Saturn needs it more but that doesn't mean that all three brands can not profit.

The CTS is a muscle car. A true decendent of the GTO/Chevelle/Cutlass/Skylark. Though the CTS would probably be a Fullsize if it were anything other then a Cadillac.

F-bodys are not muscle cars, as they have never been mid-sized cars.
This has caused many to dub them "Pony Cars"(in-accurately, i think) along with the Mustang.

My Point: The CTS-V is something the Camaro/Firebird never have and hopefully never will be. Just as a Corvette should never have 4 seats.

It would not, IMO. THe sol is a two seat convertible roadster. The curve is a four seat coupe. I see them hitting quite different markets. The Curve is more of a Sport Compact with RWD, IMO.

I would have to agree with sykboy on this one...

Yeah, that makes sense.

I hope Vauxhall gets recognition for having its own vehicle, and the Saturn is seen as the rebadge.

Vauxhall has been shafted out of an original vehicle for who knows how long...
I think it is great. It's a good looking car. Of course its not going to appeal to everyone. But guess what. A car can't be all things to all people. If you try and build a car that appeals to everyone, the car will appeal to no one.

There will be a market for a car like this, and good for GM to build this.

I'm good with that-- invariably Vauxhall will get better styling.
