GM says it is making progress on turning around the profits of two of its ongoing loss-makers, Saab and Saturn, through cost reductions and new models coming this year. GM product boss confirmed that the company will build the Saturn Curve, one of the Kappa platform cars at this week's Detroit Auto Show. The Pontiac Solstice and Curve will be built at Saturn's Wilmington, Del., plant. The Chevy Nomad Kappa concept is a tougher proposition, said Lutz. "Chevy has so much product coming already that dealers are starting to complain about where they will put it all," said Lutz. Lutz also said Saturn will soon get a " big brother" to the Saturn VUE in the form of a big crossover SUV, though he declined to peg a launch date. GM said its stronger performance in the second half of 2003, when its U.S. market share rose to 28.7 percent compared to 28 percent for all of 2003, will carry over into 2004. -Jim Burt

I can believe that, seeing as how the dealers near me insist on placing the oldest models in the front to "lure" in customers.

No kidding. If no one new anybetter, TA is probably a FORD fanatic and is just getting a blast from saying negitive things on these boards. You play it off saying some positive things, but I've got friends who love FORD's and resemble TA. It's like all you wanna do is :argue:

urg, if ya ask me that's one of the ugliest cars I've seen for quite a while. I'd much rather see them build the Nomad even tho they are getting over-crowded with new models. Why can't they build a Nomad as a Saab, Saturn, Caddy, ect?? Just rename it!

Hm-- I would really like the Curve if the exterior styling was tweaked a bit-- I'm sure it will be. I think it's production is a good idea.-- it seems different enough from the Solstice. Now about the Nomad- I think it's a good looking concept, but I was worried about too many Chevy products. I guess it would fit below the HHR-- but that still seems a little crowded... And if the SSR gets a breadwagon-- that's going to be crazy- Granted, the breadwagon would probablycost more than the Nomad, but they would be rather similar, eh?

The Saturn Curve will be a distinctive vehicle, and when I saw the concept I thought it better than any Solstice (in my opinion, though the Solstice looks good). From what I've heard, the Curve was crowded with people, who had good things to say about it. I think it will boost sales for Saturn's youth group. That's all that Saturn should focus on (in my opinion). All Saturn's models should compete with other younger buyer cars.

I'm pretty excited about the possibilities of the Kappa platform more so than I am about the Curve specifically. The fact that GM decided to build a Saturn version of it makes me kind of think (wishfully?) that maybe the division's products won't remain an after-thought in the eyes of GM's product planners. Saturn always seemed to be more about 'the experience' rather than its cars, as evidenced by the S-series, which soldiered on way too long before the prosaic Ion replaced it, and the L-series, which never really seemed to hit the mark.

Maybe the Curve is a blessing in disguise?

I would rather have a blown VVT ecotec GM motor then a big gerbal generator from honda.



and I just thought of this... What if they uses this chassis to develop a "prius" like hybrid car for Chevy? After the Silvarado hits the market with hybrid technology, a smaller econo car could deffinaly take some of that technology, but I guess the Aveo is small enough.
