"Inside Line, an automotive Website produced by CNN.com automotive partner Edmunds.com, is reporting that the new GTO could be a four-door car with a coupe-like profile. That conjecture is based on information from sources at GM and other companies involved with the project, a spokeswoman for Edmunds.com said."

Well I sure hope it isn't a 4 door.

Coupe profile? That could mean 2 things...
1.) It will be a coupe with 2 extended-cab-esq doors found on some Saturns.
2.) It will be a Charger look alike. Clearly a sedan that has lines that make it look like a coupe that are insulting to your intelligence. This is highly unlikly.

Or this report is dead wrong and it will just be a coupe. Just a chace.

And I don't really have a problem with #1.

The Mercedes 4 door coupe - a.k.a. the CLS - appears to be a runaway hit. I'm seeing them everywhere.

Go for it, Pontiac. Sounds like a good move to me.

The CLS was genious. Take the cheaper E-class platform; take out space, utility, and common sense; use the same engines and transmissions; don't even offer AWD; slap on a swoopy/droopy body; and charge $6K more per car then watch them fly off the lots.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Anyway, this better not be the GTO. Replace the Grand Prix with a RWD, coupish looking thing, and make the GTO the coupe version. They should have never gotten rid of the two door GP, and they can't get rid of the 2 door GTO. I don't think they're stupid enough to make this mistake.

4 door GTO? Doubtful.

Saturn-esque quad coupe doors? Maybe.

A totally new sedan...G8? Most likely.

Terrible, stop this four door coupe BS. Build a coupe, don't try to pass a four-door off as a two door.
Agreed. Build the GTO as a 2-door. Then, if you want to play around with the styling of a different 4-door sedan, then by all means do so. I have a feeling that's what's going on anyway. Nothing GM has said gives ANY indication they're turning the GTO into a 4 door model.

This wouldn't be a bad thing as long as there was a two door option. That small suicide door thing wouldn't be bad either.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but the fact that Mercedes is able to even stay afloat right - with horrendous reliabilty, bland performance and questionable styling - now makes me lose faith in humanity. Their engineers could put cat poop in a shoebox, draw three letters on the back and a 3 pointed star on the front, and there would still be people who swear it's the greatest car in the world. It's proof positive that in the auto industry perception is everything.

Anyway, if an automaker can give a 4-dr. car a coupe body style and make it look decent, I'll give them a shiny gold star, but I don't see it happening.

i've posted before in these forums that I thought a larger pontiac sedan should be in the vein of the CLS, it still has the four door practicality to carry a few extra folks, but it has a lot of style, which is probably more important to a pontiac customer than a chevy customer. If you base it off the next GTO, that sounds like a brilliant business decision to me.

To me, this is horrible news if Pontiac does decide to go with something like that. Concerning the Grand Prixs of the past were only 2dr cars until I believe 1990. Now you can only purchase a 4dr. That's one reason I'm going to hold onto my 2000 G/P coupe as long as I can. I really hope Pontiac doesn't ruin the GTO name by making a 4dr car like Chrysler has with the Charger. The GTO needs to remain a 2dr and the possibility of the quad option could be acceptable, but only barely. That's my opinion though.
