Chrysler also announced an offer that caps the price of gasoline at $2.99 a gallon for three years for people who buy or lease new vehicles from Wednesday through June 2. The offer is based on 12,000 miles of driving per year at the vehicle's rated fuel economy.

Customers will get a card for buying gas that is linked to their own charge account, Chrysler said. The customer will be billed $2.99 a gallon, and Chrysler will pay the rest.

Riiiiiight... actually, this could very well work! I can see oodles of people signing up for 3-year leases on Rams and Durangos and other inefficient vehicles if they're guaranteed 2.99 gas. Still, it's an artifical measure that will backfire in the end, when people either choke when their gas prices suddenly jump to 5 bucks when the card runs out.
I don't think the buying public is quite as gullible as you give them credit for ;)

Of course a few might hop into those big rigs.......but there's also the LX Cars, Sebring/Avenger, Challenger, not to mention Jeep......
