Plus there is no denying that the Raptor has been a total cash cow for Ford.

It depends on how much was spent developing its suspension and creating tooling for unique bodywork. I'm sure it was worth it for the brand, but considering how much you get in the Raptor package vs how much it costs, I don't see a lot of extra profit cooked into the Raptor.

For the most part Ford just took some already great Fox racing shocks, upgraded the steel in the rear axle to the same steel used on the F350 dually, widened the frame, and fabricated widened body work along with some other upgrades. I cant imagine it was too much of an extra expense, otherwise Ford probably wouldn't have green-lighted it. But considering the truck sells at or way above MSRP and they have had to increase production a few times to meet demand, I just can't imagine there not being a fair amount of profit cooked into it.

Honestly all of this is beside the point. I'm hoping this announcement is for some sort of offroad biased Colorado that is more capable than the regular Z71 colorado. But to be realistic it will probably be just some stickers, possibly upgraded shocks, and maybe some more aggressive tires. All of which is good, but its not that special.

Didn't mean to post the one line reply above without justification. I would say that your generalization of who the Raptor appeals to is just plain incorrect. The Raptor seems to appeal to anybody who wants a badass looking truck, even if they may or may not use its offroad capabilities. To put it plainly, the raptor appeals to a pretty broad audience, so much more so than simply "white trash with money". Plus there is no denying that the Raptor has been a total cash cow for Ford, so GM would be smart to emulate it's formula with the Colorado/Canyon, or even Silverado/Sierra. Make the truck capable, not just some stickers and slightly above average rancho shocks, aka Z71 and All-Terrain package.

I'm not picking on the Raptor, if the Silverado had Raptor-like trim it would appeal to the same folks. It's more of a big macho truck versus a little truck. Marty McFly's Toyota versus the good ole boy Raptor.

The profit is in that most models sell with additional dealer markup tacked on instead of a steep discount that a typical truck sells with. That adds up fast!

I saw the ZR2 as a natural progression of the Baja. The Raptor & Power Wagon are both desirable as serious off road machines, but I still don't see spending $50K+ on a new truck to use it for serious off-roading.

The attached concept (South American version) was shown in a picture from the US plant a couple of weeks ago. It's a shame I didn't save the pic as I can't find it now. I'd imagine the LA Colorado Concept will be similar to this and preview the next ZR2 model.

Why don't you show the rest of the videos that show just how messed up that truck is afterwards?
I've been at silver lake when idiots do those things and I'd take a raptor over a stock GM truck any day for that environment.
We were up there when a guy broke the front suspension on his H1 Hummer too.
Then there is the video of the black GMC that bent its frame.

Point is under aggressive, not stupid, driving on the dunes a Raptor actually performs well. The Z71 package isn't squat.

Lets just leave it at Ford and Ram have actual off road packages while GM has sticker options.

FWIW, I'm a GM fan but they are just out classed in those areas.

I have not seen any Raptors or power wagons here as niche vehicles are not real popular. We did see a BUNCH of the ZR2s in this area.

The Z71 package is nothing more than skid plates and slightly better shocks, the Raptor has $10K Fox Racing coil overs - of course the Raptor jumps better. If it didn't, that would be sad.
