Chevrolet Announces Pricing For The 2009 Traverse

DETROIT – Chevrolet announced the 2009 Traverse crossover will carry a MSRP of $28,990, including a $735 destination charge, for the 2WD LS model. It goes on sale this fall.

“With its great styling, leading fuel economy and comprehensive roster of equipment, the Traverse is a great expression of Chevrolet value,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is an expressively styled, well-equipped crossover that delivers people-hauling and cargo-carrying capability typically found in larger SUVs. It is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Product highlights include:

* Expressive styling inspired by the 2008 Malibu
* Optimized aerodynamics that enhance fuel economy and reduce wind noise
* Four-wheel independent suspension system
* StabiliTrak electronic stability control system
* Family of 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels
* Seating for up to eight adults
* Second-row Smart Slide seat feature, for easy access to the third-row seats
* Rear-seat entertainment system with second-row controls
* Six standard air bags, including side curtain air bags that deploy over all three seating rows
* OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and Direction Download and eNav (with navigation system)
* XM Satellite Radio including NavTraffic real-time traffic feature (with navigation system)
* Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity

Traverse is powered by a 3.6L engine with direct injection technology that helps produce power similar to many V-8 engines, but delivers better-than-expected fuel economy and a 25-percent reduction in cold-start emissions. The 3.6L engine is mated to the fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission.

Re: Chevrolet Traverse Will Start At $ 28,990; $370 Less Than Saturn Outlook

The Aura is apparently on hold.

The Traverse is priced a few hundred from the Outlook.

The Astra is a sales disappointment.

Goodbye Saturn?
Remember Outlook for 2009 should start around $30,009.00 with the 3.5% price increase.

Corsa becomes the Metro in your scenario.

The Vue is a few hundred pounds overweight.

Goodbye Saturn?

If Saturn is really supposed to be Opel in America, then the Outlook could go and Saturn could offer smaller people movers. I believe Saturn still has a place in the market, but it needs to hold more true to Opel's lineup.

Back on the topic, the Traverse looks nice! Right product at the right time as people abandon BOF SUV's?

The 3.5% increase is GM wide, not vehicle specific. Some will have increases above 3.5% and others below. I would suspect price increases would be higher for models that are selling well, lower for SUV's and trucks that already have heavy incentives.

I was hoping they would sell it closer to the price of the minivans. I should have known better, as these will need to be GM's new money maker. Still, not a bad deal and it should make a great family rig with decent gas mileage.

Any guesses on what the new engine will bring as far as gas mileage goes? They said it would improve. 26mpg hwy maybe?

Yes, maybe it would be a good idea for Saturn to have only cars and small crossovers in its line-up - no Outlook. You can build a green image more easily for a brand if you don't have large\gas hogs in its lineup.
It's like: 'Chevy is green, Chevy makes Cobalt; Yea but what about that Suburban?'.
If Saturn would have only cars and Vue in it's lineup, you could easily get to the point of advertising it as 'The brand with the most fuel efficient line-up!' or 'The greenest brand' - Eat that Honda (with that Ridgeline of yours).
Or even get to the point of selling Saturn cars with at least BAS on them. You'd get an 'all hybrid' brand. That would be a good PR hit.

2009 Ford Flex pricing: $ 28,995 - $5.00 more than the Traverse.
Well that's the deal maker for me! :D

I wish this was a little lower, but I guess for an eight-passenger full size crossover, it's not bad.
Will this still get the 27 MPG that was predicted...or did I just randomly dream about that number last night?

Fair enough price, but Chevy could really use a mid-sized crossover sized similarly to the Ford Edge. Equinox isn't in the same category as the Edge, and the Traverse will be too large for many people in the market.

In that case, do you think the Outlook will be priced higher or lower than $30,009.00?

What a waste! The Traverse isn't as appealing as either the Outlook or Enclave. And the front isn't really better than the Acadia. I like the overall utility of the vehicle, but it usually seems that they are a bit too long. I guess they're really taking the place of the minivans and so must accommodate at least 6-7 passengers (driver included).

I'd rather GM modified the Lambda architecture to create the new Tahoe CUV. Or just use Zeta like the Denali XT concept.

Why could not one of the four morph into a minivan?
Was that so hard?
For young families, a vehicle that allows junior to dent someone else's door at every supermarket stop is probably not ideal.

I have a feeling in this case it might be a matter of cost... either with additional engineering or simply cost of the platform itself for a minivan? I have no idea what the Chrysler, Honda, or Toyota minivans go for though.

Dodge Grand Caravan SXT starts at at 27k+

Honda Odyssey EX starts at just under 29k

Toyota Sienna XLE starts at under 30k

All trims are not the base trim, but are priced and equiped the same as the Traverse.

I would say: If Saturn is really supposed to be Opel than please bring the Outlook to Europe. With a choice of Diesel and Gas Engine it would find many buyers here if priced competetive.
