I always like pre launch reviews, because they don't have enough copy space to nit pick about stupid little things that wouldn't really bother anyone: "The HVAC controls had a damping that was lighter than I prefer, blah blah blah". And they take time to make passing comments about how precious metrosexuals and wine and cheese eaters are!

Promising review and good appraisal of the main competition. I'm sure all will go well with Camaro, and especially the V6. :yup:

Sounds like a nice package!! The car sounds like a cheap BMW 3 series. I guess we'll have to see what cheaper means. Are we talking $25,000 for this car. If this car comes in around mid 20's for the base model with nice trimmings, we got winner. Not to mention, the first year will probably demand sticker plus for any variant.

Saw my first Challenger last weekend. Very bland if you ask me. Didn't stand out at all. The wife and I had to look twice to make sure we were seeing what we thought we were seeing.

Reviews for this car will be all over the place soon, this is a good one though, it certainly establishes that there is much to like about the car as well as confirming that the opposition pale in comparison. If they can get the pricing right the Camaro should go far. While a Z28 would be nice it just won't add greatly to the numbers. GM is trying hard to shift the perception of this car so focusing on the V6 will do no harm, especially in the longer term.

Oh, I so badly want to get my gubby little mits on one of these!

sounds like GM made the right decision to use a reletively premium platform, and bring the nameplate some much needed upscale'ness, via ride and handling

I have seen 2 Challenger SRT-8's so far. One ine black and one in that orange color. And i have to agree.. the style is acutally pretty bland. It only stood out to me because it was so big! Not to mention the 20's stood out also.

HOT HOT HOT!

However ownership of some American beauties isn't easy. People staring, taking pictures...

here's a picture of those beauties being transported to European customers. Can't wait to see similar trailers with Camaros

So nice to finally see some vehicles that don't put me to sleep. That is an awesome truckload of greatness there!

I was hoping they would a have a real low entry level model, so in a few years these cars (Mustang, Charger, and Camaro) would start showing up in high school parking lots...instead of those civic/corola turds

It's interesting how people can have such differing views of the same thing.

I had just the opposite response. In pictures I found the Challenger dull and boring. But when I saw it in person I thought it was a great looking vehicle. Not Camaro great, but far more attractive than the Mustang.

HUH?!? Seeing a Challenger in person makes you realize it really is just the same 300 / Magnum / Charger BRICK with a skin stretched over it. I'll keep my Mustang GT over that any day.

Now as to the Camaro, where was this car two years ago when I needed it? Don't get me wrong, I like my Mustang, but its suspension is lacking (MUCH better on Mustang Bullitt) and the 300 hp DI on this Camaro would have made me look VERY seriously at it.

In the right configuration and color (aka black), any of these 3 machines can be [email protected]@$$ looking IMO. The Camaro has a slight edge for me, but I think it will really depend on the real life proportions.

I don't mind that the Challenger is generally bigger and heavier than the Mustang and Camaro (probably going towards some extra rear legroom). What kills it for me, though, is its 57+ inch height, even my old pedestrian Accord was like 55 inches, and there was still lots of headroom for my 6' 3" brother. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints.

Dodge, lower = sportier kthnx

Number of times know nothing reviewers use the word "Mullett" in the new Camaro review:

413

Obviously it takes no special skill to be an auto reviewer anymore. They just all repeat the same crap they know the other reviewers wrote. Just like when the Solstice came out.

My advice is, go drive one when they are available. From what I know about the ENGINEERING of the vehicle, is should be an absolutely wonderful car. It is way too heavy because of the platform that was chosen for it (and all the other cars that were to be built on that platform seem to have now been cancelled), but it is a well done car none the less.

I am really liking this new Camaro now. I restrained myself from reading much about it over the past year, hoping not to get myself too worked up. But now that it's getting closer, I'm slipping! :yup:

I've owned two Z28's ('92, and '80), so I understand the notion of looking down on the V6 models. However, if a V6 can really do 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, that might be enough power for me.

My only problem with the car so far is with the dumb, retro speedo and tachometer. The needles are painted red only near the tip which makes it very difficult to read at a glance. And the tall, skinny numbers don't help either. That's one retro touch they should've skipped.
