A man who took a new car for a test drive in Melbourne ended up travelling 6,200 kilometres across Australia, it is alleged.

Tam Thai Luu, 30, will face court in Alice Springs on Friday over the five-day test drive, which stunned the car dealers who handed over the keys to the $40,000 Honda Accord sedan.

Luu was arrested about 5km south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory on Tuesday after failing to pay for petrol at the Wycliffe Well roadhouse.

He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle valued at over $20,000 and appeared in Tennant Creek local court on Wednesday.

Where's t-rex? :lmao:
We had something like this happen at our dealership as well.

A player for the local pro football team wanted to take a Denali for a spin.
He doesn't come back that afternoon and we can't get ahold of him.
He called us a few days later form his home in the States and said that he had decided against the vehicle and that we could come pick it up.
Turns out he had just been dropped from the team roster and was now back in Georgia or where ever it was he was from(I forget exactly, but Georgia seems to stick out in my memory).
We had to get the unit trucked back from about 3000Km away.

Did you call the police? I would have pressed charges. Just because he/she was a minor celebrity shouldn't make a difference.

Screw people with that overpriveleged attitude.

Exactly, t-rex was that you or should I call you Tam Thai Luu?:lmao:
It was this guy's God given right as a consumer to do this!!!

Do they want his business or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
was it the two car attendants from ferris bueller's day off?

Exactly! To quote member Saturn_69..."Consumerism and entitlement are not family values." Too few people forget that.
C'mon people, we've all thought about doing this at one time or another ;)
I hope they charge him for making a new car a used car.

I don't know exactly what ever came of it as far as repercusions for the guy. When he didn't show that day I know they tried to get a hold of him and tried to stay calm about it, everyone assuming that something must have come up. I also remember that the next day the tried to get a hold of him through the team offices and that is when they found out he had been dropped from the roster. That's when tension around the dealership went up noticably and the managers involved got tight lipped about what was going on. I know that the unit ended up comming back on a truck later that month. The next time I'm at the dealership I'm going to ask around and see if anyone remembers what happened as far as charges or anything.

Yes we have :D
Well...did he buy it?

Yeah especially when GM was pushing those 24 hour test drives! Hmmm how far can I take a Corvette if I average 160 km/h?

3840kms. But where are you going to average 160km/h?
3840kms. But where are you going to average 160km/h?
It's easy to average 160 km/h when you can go 300 km/h :drive: Just stay away from OPP and you will be okay :D Just remember to pump gas like the guys do at LeMans or NASCAR events ;)

Realistically of course that is a crazy-high average speed, but on a moderate-length journey (say 500 km) it is attainable in the real world in North America (in perfect conditions though). In Europe even easier (until you see scameras :D)

Saskatchewan, border to border.

You don't even need to steer or anything, just put a brick on the gas and go to sleep... you might end up making some "crop circles" but it doesn't really matter :D

Is it true you can see from one side to the other? :lmao:

No you can't, the curve of the earth gets in the way.
