Canadian government to announce big incentives to help Ford reopen Windsor engine plant
DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will announce Wednesday that the automaker will reopen an engine plant in Windsor, Ontario, thanks to a big incentive package from the Canadian government.
Ford said in March that it would reopen the Essex Engine Plant. The plant closed in November and affected 650 jobs.
Canadian press reports say the incentives for Ford and a General Motors Corp. plant in St. Catharines, Ontario, could reach as high as $200 million. Ford would not comment, pending a 1 p.m. announcement.
